Solo traveller, 3 night stay
I was travelling solo. For me the Kelvingrove was a nice hotel but not outstanding. The best thing was the staff. My flight was delayed so I arrived after check in had closed but they were happy to wait up to let me in. The corridors and room felt dated. The room had a large bed but almost too big for the room as the door hit the bed when opening so wouldn’t open fully. There was a slightly musty smell about the room. Clean enough and mostly quiet, however, there is student accommodation opposite and one night they had loud music until late in the night that felt like it was inside my room! The breakfast smelt good each morning but I didn’t eat there so I can’t comment. Little things could be improved such as the fact the bathroom light cord was just a piece of old string. It wouldn’t take much to put a nice handle on it to give the room a little TLC

Exceptional 10.0
Fantastic hotel in brilliant location!
Staff are knowledgeable locals with warm and friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, they provided great service. So much so that I would happily stay here on my own for a business trip. Rooms have everything we needed including super fast wifi. There is saniflow plumbing which is noisy but not intrusive. Hotel was full when we stayed but you would not have known it, as so peaceful at night. Breakfast, although extra at £7 was well worth it. Great choice of items. Great sausages and eggs, all made to order. Hotel is 10 mins to hyrdo which makes it perfect for gigs. We went to the O2 academy which is a 20 min walk or 6 mins on bus. Parking voucher was well worth £4 as we were parked right outside hotel for 24 hours. Considering how close hotel is to centre of Glasgow I had not thought it was even possible. Hotel is easy to get to and from Charing X junction M8. Hotel is close to some great restaurants. Crabshakk is a 3 min walk. Kelvingrove park is behind the hotel and there are tennis courts and bowling greens less than a 2 min walk away. Kelvingrove art gallery and museum is a 7 min walk. Hotel is on a main bus route, buses to airport and main shopping centres. Main shopping is 8 mins away by bus. Also the city tour bus stops right outside the hotel. A half price gym pass is available. I have stayed in a few Glasgow hotels, although nice, this one left them all standing. Quality hotel at price of a B&B. Unbeatable value in an amazing location.

Socks on !
Arrived lateish nice greeting from duty manager but bedroom carpet was filthy and human hairs in bathroom so not happy. Hotel full so kept socks on. Well cleaned next day but very disappointed. Some oddities as well, bedside light switches 4ft above bed do needed to get out to switch off! OK breakfast

Mixed Feelings
The price was very reasonable, the location was great and the service was good BUT one of the mattresses was down to its springs with only a thin covering to cushion the metal (the other mattress was fine), the heating was spotty and only the radiator hidden behind the bathroom door seemed to be working and while the room literature encouraged us to call Reception for assistance, the telephone did not work nor was it even connected and it turns out that the phone wasn't even supposed to be there - they were working on a new system. Having said this, the person at Reception was helpful and did come to our room with an additional duvet to put on my mattress as they had no spares and said that the hotel was working on replacing old mattresses. In general, the room felt like a college dorm - it appeared clean, however you didn't want to look too closely. A positive was a working tea kettle and mini-fridge. Would I stay there again? Probably not.

Very good 8.0
Quiet, well located and economical.
We arrived quite late at night and were welcomed in by the night porter. Despite the email saying that check in times are strict, this late arrival wasn't a problem for the staff. The room was comfortable enough but we suspect the mattress is at the end of its useful life, since it felt like it had collapsed and was spitting you out of bed. The sink in the bathroom appeared to be stuck with the plug hole closed over by the plug. This was freed with the use of the teaspoon from the coffee making set! Otherwise, proof that you get what you pay for!
