Fantastic stay for great price !
Fantastic hostel in the best location for the loop sights . Walked everywhere. Felt safe. Breakfast was great ! Hostel had lots of anemities. The mattress on the beds were far too soft and caused backpain. Showers need to be fixed as the water is almost a dribble ! Would stay again.

Great overall, just a couple of niggles
Excellent all round. Just one thing that is probably just me, but I was in a private room in an apartment with four rooms and it wasn't possible to alter the air conditioning from my room which was number 3. Only number 1 room can adjust the air con. It was much to cold for me and I was shivering in my room when it was 31C outside! Also the windows had been jammed shut with a piece of wood screwed into the sash. Not happy about that, although if you could open the sash it would have been easy to fall out of the 7th floor......some compromise needed there I feel. Shower was lovely and hot but not powerful enough to give an adequate soaking. Best used as a hand shower.

A wonderful option!
I needed to sleep for a few hours before catching a 5am flight out of MDW, and this ended up being a perfect place to do that. I've always had great experiences with HI-Chicago, and this was no exception. The accommodations were wonderful, and I appreciated being in a bunk room with an en suite bathroom. And the woman at the registration desk was incredibly friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hostel!

Fabulous, affordable place to stay
Fabulous place to stay! The rooms are modern and clean. Plenty of bathrooms and showers. There are pool tables, ping pong tables, and free daily activities to sign up for. The location is excellent, close to Lake Michigan and an L station. Very friendly staff!

Roomy, tidy, and clean
I'm Jaruwam from Bangkok, Thailand. HI Chicago is definitely my favorite. It's very comfy as all rooms are so spacious: bedrooms, bathrooms, dining room, andcommon areas. Apparently, the management and its staff work hard around the clock to make sure that the facility is clean and tidy. Cleaning is done not only during the daytime. I saw a housekeeping staff cleaning thebathrooms when I woke up to use the hallway restroom at 3 am. one night. The complimentary breakfast has a variety of good choices. Another plus is the free activities, like Downtown Walking Tour, and etc. I stayed at HI Chicago for 2 weeks when I visited Chicago in Nov.2019. I wish I could move in there and make it my home 😊

Great Times In the Windy City!
HI Chicago was truly an enjoyable experience! The staff were very courteous and helpful, giving valuable information about the local culture to this first-time Chicago visitor...

A good stay apart from a misunderstanding which resultedn in books being removed and not returned. This was not deliberate but still irritating. Not having fresh fruit for braekfast for a couple of days was disppointing but at least the canned stuff was not full of sugar. Great staff. Good location
