The people were nice but the room was dirty and run down. I had to go to Centrum which was much better for the same price.

Warm and large hotel in dire need of make over
Hotel has very grand entrance but inside is very tired, unclean in places and very tired. Breakfast was avoided as did not look appetising at all apart from the coffee. The juices were all watered down.

Run down building. Really old dirty mattress worst sleep ever. Had to take painkillers for my backpain. Really old furniture. Walls are almost falling off. Shower wall missing. Uncomfortable sleep. Staff is nice. Location is really good. Right in the centre. But I would never return.

8/10 Very good

I stayed at this hotel even though i read alot of bad reviews as i am interested in old historical places and this is an.old communist hotel.... i knew what to expect so i was not disappointed. The hotel is the most central you can be in debrecen so its perfect for exploring. The staff try their best and its good for the price. But yes the facilities are not great and i dont think its been redurbished for 30 years or so.

Disappointed
The hotel was a very grand place in its day. Unfortunately depending on which room you are given is whether the place has been updated or not. On our recent stay one of the rooms was modernised, the other very basic, very clean but uncomfortable. The second room was also very noisy 350 as towards the far side of the hotel which we found on the second night was next to a raving disco which went on to around 4 -5 a.m. It is attached to the hotel so the vibrations can be felt. Breakfast very good, hotel very clean, very good position in the centre of town and staff helpful.

You get what you pay for... Wonderful Art Deco building in horrible condition, poorly appointed, BAD beds, in the heart of Debrecen which is impressive in its 19th century architecture.

8/10 Very good

This hotel was a famous and expensive (elite) hotel in the era of communism. Some of its charm is still there with tall ceilings and large doors. The Hotel was kept very very clean ! The furniture are a little bit run down. The bathrooms are remodeled and shiny clean . The breakfast was overflowing . There is a bar and restaurant on site, which is open late on weekends. Old-fashioned charm, which need some renovation.

This hotel is a disaster: the information about the city for the tourist zero, the furniture at the room broken, no phone in the room. At the weekend there is an disco near-by and the music till 5 o'clock morning!! In one word: terrible!!

Unpleasant rooms
The hotel stays in a perfect location, the lobby and the dining room are very nice, but when you go up the floors and enter the rooms - you find them in a very fair condition. Some of the doors locks do not function, some of the walls are peelling off, the smell is unpleasant, and worst issue - there is no air conditioning or even ventilators.

Primitive
Dated property in great need of renovation and the staff could use better training, although the housekeeper was very pleasant. The room decor is dated and the wall paper is peeling off the walls in some spots. The room was clean, but there isn't much you can do with old furnishings. There are a few portable A/C units in the hotel, but the one in my room stopped working shortly after I arrived, when I asked if I could move to another A/C room I was told that there weren't any. When I asked if mine could be fixed I was told, "no!" It was hot and humid the night I stayed and the bed was very uncomfortable. The next morning at breakfast, there were two young ladies, on their mobile devices the whole time, who were in charge of the breakfast room. They made no attempt to welcome anyone and seemed to only be interested in being online. The breakfast was not bad, but not great either, but it could have been better attended to by the staff. The price was cheap enough, which should have been my clue, and since it was only one night, I figured I could endure. The building is beautiful on the outside and the location is perfect. If they ever upgrade, it could be a very special destination in Debrecen.

Dirty hotel with peeling paint and wet moldy hallway walls. Room dirty and no towels. It was so terrible we checked into another hotel. This property does not even qualify for one star.
