Incredible gem
This was an incredible gem of a place. Our host was so friendly and accomdating and drove us around to train stations and dinner since the area is remote. There's a remote beach a few steps away and with literally no one who visits it's very tranquil. The breakfast was delicious!

Wonderful Stay at Taroko Aluwa
It was a very pleasant stay in a wonderful small home stay that is across the beach. The owners are very friendly, helpful and guided us on what to see/do/eat. They cooked a delicious breakfast every morning.

Thomas, our host, was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming! He gave us tips on places to eat and a delightful swimming spot in the nearby river. The homestay is across the road from a huge stretch of beach which is accessed through a short trail- sunrise is spectacular! Breakfast is great- friendly group in the open kitchen. Short drive over to Taroko, so great location to explore the park.

Secluded location by the beach
We had a great stay at Taroko Aluwa. We were in Hualien to explore Taroko Gorge and the hotel was a great home base - close to the gorge, about 30 min drive from Hualien city, and in a secluded area right next to the beach (50 meter walk). Breakfast was included and excellent, and the owners were very accommodating and kind. We'd stay here again for sure.

Great stay
We had a great stay at Taroko Aluwa. It is about 30 min north of Hualien city by car and close to Taroko Gorge, so a good place to stay if you're planning on exploring the gorge during your trip. It's in a quiet neighborhood, just a 50m walk to the gorgeous beach, and we liked the seclusion. It's a modern building, with spacious rooms and ours had a great view of the mountains and ocean. The owner Thomas was very welcoming and helpful, and adjusted the free breakfast to our vegetarian needs. Overall, it was a great stay and we would definitely recommend it and stay here again!

Great location, very helpful staff
We had a very relaxing stay at Aluwa over the weekend. The staff was extremely helpful through our stay, contacting us before arrival, picking us up at the station, helping us hire taxis for a couple of half-day trips, and they also allowed us to barbecue during the weekend. The hotel is right next to the beach, which we also enjoyed. The room was very comfortable and the view of the mountains very enjoyable. We had a very nice stay and would highly recommend Aluwa.

A well-appointed Bed and Breakfast by the Pacific
I highly recommend this bed and breakfast inn. The rooms are clean and the location is ideal. This place lets you see the best of Hua Lien. We stayed in this hotel shortly before Christmas, in a room with an ocean view. It is located in a quiet and safe area with one side of the inn facing the blue mountains and the other side facing the ocean. A short walk on a path through bushes took us to a beautiful beach every morning, from where we would jog to Chih-sing-tan Beach. One morning while having tea in the breakfast room, we saw paragliders coming down from the mountains. After finding out from the hostess that a paragliding site was right across the street, we went for a ride in the paraglider and got an aerial view of the breathtakingly beautiful coastline, the green rice fields and the famous site Qingshui Cliff. The hostess picked us up from the train station when we arrived. She prepared breakfast for us every morning, and we had very pleasant conversations. She recommended places to visit, and arranged a taxi tour of Taroko National Park for us. As another gesture of hospitality, she gave us a ride to the train station after we checked out.

A rare gem
My fiancee and I visited in early August. We both live abroad and this was my fiancee's first trip to TW. Mr and Mrs Wu are your wonderful hosts at this lovely guesthouse, which is located next to the sea on the doorstep to the Taroko Gorge National Park. The guesthouse is warm and beautiful. Three friendly dogs greet you on your arrival, Aluwa, a gentle beast of a dog, as well as 2 strays, Happy and Lucky, who were rescued by the owners. The lobby is full of wooden carvings and other artworks. We had a combo mountain and sea view room on the third floor in unit B. Furniture is tasteful and very clean. Large screen TV with cable and wifi, cold and quiet aircon, kettle and bar fridge. The king size bed is amazing. Water pressure is good . The balcony is also terrific. So everything was there for a great stay. The guesthouse is a little bit out of the way, but Mr Wu was happy to drop us off and pick us up for dinner and for our day trip into Taroko. His French military jeep is definitely one of the highlights. The breakfast was thoughtful, a reinivention of the full English breakfast with a distinct Taiwanese twist. The guesthouse suited us perfectly. We wanted to be away from the City and get a bit of sunshine, mountain and the sea. The hospitality was phenomenal and certainly one of the more enjoyable guesthouse stays we have had anywhere in the world.
