A nice option for a ryokan stay in Arima-Onsen. The ryokan is very nice, the lobby itself is decorated in western style although the rooms are tatami. Kotori has an private indoor bath with a silver onsen, the gold onsen is a public bath located on the roof level at Hanamusubi, their sister hotel down the street and is free to use for Kotori guests. Dinner and breakfast were both traditional Japanese style meals and were very impressively presented and delicious. Dinner is served at Hanamusubi and breakfast is served at Kotori. The local main street and its shops are also a short walk away. The town of Arima Onsen is a bit hilly, but if that is an issue for you then Kotori offers pickup by car from the local train or bus stations. Highly recommended if you are looking for an ryokan & onsen experience in Arima Onsen!

Food at sister hotel about 4 min walk away was really delicious n beautifully presented. However the staff was not very friendly at kotori. We waited for 25 mins for shuttle bus despite giving them early notice n the shuttle from ruokan to bus stop pickup was only 5 mins away. There was also no smile from the staff as compared to the sister hotel. Nevertheless, it is gd value for money. Kotori waa v clean n quiet for a gd night stay.

The meals are really great. Staff service is excellent. While there is no toilet in the room, it is really just outside the room. Very convenient and clean. It's like a small family country lodge kind of feel. Makes you feel at home. Would really recommend it.

Cozy Onsen Hotel
The hotel is located uphill and away from Arima Onsen main street by 10-min walk. It provides free shuttle service from the main street, bus stops and train station to the hotel, or vice versa, upon request. It has only 9 rooms in total including Japanese bedrooms, twin bed rooom and double bed room, but that's its upside that you could enjoy all the facilities, including the shared bathrooms and toilets without crowds. Its in-house onsen is the clear Ginsen water (silver water). The hotel is pleasant, and comfortable. The staff was nice and served us very warmly. This hotel is annexed to Arima Hot Spring Ryokan Hanamusubi (3mins by walk), sharing the main building's Kinsen (gold water) and also Ginsen onsens, both indoor and outdoor. If you choose the half-board package, you will enjoy the delicious dinner at this main building. More importantly, the hotel is priced very reasonably among the others available in the vicinity of Arima Onsen but the facilities and meals provided are well above average. I highly recommend to those travelers who are first time to visit Arima Onsen and would like to enjoy a half-board (with dinner and breakfast) at limited budget.

Really good service and clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and filling. It's a short walk to the main inn where the golden onsen is located. Would definitely stay again although do try to get a ride to the hotel as the walk from the station is steep and physically challenging.

The hotel is a little bit far from the district, it need to walk a slope to arrive the hotel. The hotel is tiny, but warm. There are only silver onsen on it. It can use the public onsen from the main hotel, where have the both gold and silver one. It need to take a few minutes walk to arrive it. It is not a problem for us because the hotel is well prepared all we need (e.g. Thick warm jacket). Overall recommended.

Short stay at Arima onsen
We stayed full board for one night at Kotori. It is a small cosy ryokan, and was about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the bus stop where we got off. When you enter, the staff are lovely and professional. In preparation for our board there, before going to the room, we were asked what time we would like to have dinner and breakfast the next day. Dinner is located next door at another hotel, it's only a 3 minute walk up the hill. Dinner was Kaiseki style and was absolutely amazing. Breakfast was at Kotori, and this was also good. Our room was a Japanese styled room and was very comfortable. The toilets are shared but were kept very clean. It was freezing when we went, and the hotel provides a set of traditional japanese clothes to wear out. As Arima onsen is famous for the onsen experience our stay at Kotori included use of the golden onsen at the sister ryokan, and the silver one which was on site at Kotori. The golden onsen was much better (much more enjoyable even when compared with kin no yu) but the silver one only has space for 1 or 2 people. Overall, we really liked this ryokan and would come back to arima onsen again.

An Excellent Experience
This is a good hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The pickup service is excellent and they come within 10 min after a phone call. The only one point I don’t quite like is diner not at the same building, but 1 min walk to other building. Otherwise, it is an excellent stay.
