Brew Beers and Ciders, as the name suggests, stocks a large collection of local and imported beers, ciders and ales. It’s the place to go if you’re tired of the predictable Chang, Singha and Tiger, which you’ll find at just about every bar and nightclub in Bangkok. You’ll find an unbelievable range of draft and bottled beers from microbreweries around the world – it’s pretty much guaranteed that you can enjoy the most bespoke of tipples. Ekkamai Shopping Mall is on the ground floor of Seenspace, an outdoor community mall on Thonglor Soi 13.

Octave Rooftop Bar & Lounge is a 4-storey nightlife venue within Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit. It stays open all day, but the best time to visit is towards the evenings when you can enjoy impressive sunset views of Bangkok. Head for the top floor to find the pièce de resistance: a 360-degree rooftop with a circular bar, where staff mix creative cocktails. Octave Rooftop Bar & Lounge is about 250 metres southeast of the Thong Lo Skytrain Station.

Tuba Design Furniture & Restaurant offers a varied Thai-Italian inspired menu and one of the longest cocktail lists in the city. Its quirky interior is part of its charm, with a life-sized Yoda statue, a 19th-century diving helmet, and Spiderman as décor. Part antique gallery, part bohemian hangout, Tuba feels more like an eccentric friend’s house than a bar. Located on Ekkamai 21 Alley, Tuba Design Furniture & Restaurant is a little over 2km north of the Ekkamai BTS Skytrain Station.

WTF Gallery and Café is one of the most easy-going places to drink around Thonglor. The 3-storey bar has a small bar, with retro décors such as floral tiles and vintage movie posters. Its music policy focuses on jazz, Afro, Latin soul, hip-hop, and house. It has an innovative cocktail list and some tasty tapas comfort food – Daniel Thaiger burgers are available from Tuesdays to Sundays (5pm to 9.30pm). Located on Sukhumvit Soi 51, WTF Gallery and Café is within a 5-minute walk from Thong Lo BTS Skytrain Station.  

After You Dessert Café is a hot spot for sweet-toothed Bangkokians, who often wait in long lines to enjoy its signature Shibuya honey toast topped with whipped cream and ice cream. The menu also includes seasonal yet equally decadent variations like Ferrero, matcha, and even cheddar cheese. Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) is also a must-try, with flavours such as strawberry cheesecake and Thai tea. Located at J Avenue Thonglor 13, After You Dessert Café opens until midnight.

Baan Khanitha Restaurant Thonglor is a stylish dining room spread over multiple levels, serving traditional Thai food in a laidback and welcoming environment. The restaurant has modern Oriental elements, evoking the feeling of a Thai family home. It has won multiple awards over the years, making it an excellent spot for authentic Thai cuisine. There are 4 branches of Baan Kanitha in Bangkok, each of them maintains the same high standards in terms of food and service.

Bo.Lan is famous for initiating the concept of fine-dining Thai cuisine in Bangkok. You can sample age-old recipes made from the absolute best ingredients but presented with the flair of European haute cuisine. The owners received training from celebrity chef David Thompson, who founded the Michelin-starred Thai restaurant Nahm in London. Bo.Lan is within a 5-minute walk of the Thong Lo BTS Skytrain Station.

Khua Kling Pak Sod is a small and barely visible restaurant hidden down the narrow lane of Thonglor Soi 5. The entrance looks like a garage and the sign – written only in Thai – is smaller than a shoebox. However, it’s consistently packed on weekends as it’s one of the few places in Bangkok that serves authentic Southern Thai cuisine. Must-tries at Khua Kling Pak Sod include gaeng luang  (yellow and pungent curry with fish and young coconut shoots) and khua kling (young pork ribs fried in spicy paste).

ROAST Coffee & Eatery is one of Thonglor’s most popular brunch spots, serving not only a great caffeine hit but a delicious selection of comforting international dishes. Hearty meals like Croque Monsieur, cranberry brioche French toast, and American pancakes are must-tries at this large and airy restaurant. ROAST occupies the top floor of The Commons, a lifestyle mall with a collection of shops and restaurants. If you’re here on weekends, try to get there early to avoid a long wait.  

Sole Mio is an authentic Italian restaurant and pizzeria on Akkhara Phat Alley, near Nihonmura Mall Thonglor. Operated by a team from Turin and Rome, this great-value trattoria stands out as they have a clear pedigree at delivering dishes you know so well at an unbelievably good price. Standouts from its extensive food menu include the fettuccine porcini and sausage, Sorrento-style gnocchi, and classic Margherita pizza.

Soul Food Mahanakorn serves up popular regional dishes in a cosy wood-lined setting. If you are looking for a great evening with delicious Thai food, this is the place to go. Must-tries include the Issan chicken wings with naam jim (chilli, fish sauce, vinegar and sugar), sticky tamarind ribs, and sea bass grilled in banana leaf. From their signature drinks list, our favourite cocktails are Bang Fai (tequila, lime, chilli, almond syrup and egg whites) and Soul Punch (Thai whisky, amaretto, guava and passion fruit).

Supanniga Eating Room serves an appetising range of traditional Thai dishes from Trat (by the east coast) and Khon Kaen (northeast). With comfortable and chic décor, an outside terrace, and some strong martinis, this Thonglor restaurant is often packed on weekends. Located on Soi 8, Supanniga Eating Room is around a 10-minute walk of the Thong Lo BTS Skytrain Station.

Black Amber Social Club, founded by Chavin Nantaterm, is a whiskey bar and networking space for gentlemen in Thonglor. Items from Nantaterm’s antique collection are placed throughout the venue, including some gorgeous leather armchairs, a grand piano, and an entire ostrich skeleton in the lobby. Bangkok’s whiskey drinkers should also take note, as there’s a vast selection of single malts stacked behind the dimly-lit bar, plus a few rare bottles of rum, gin, and absinthe. 

72 Courtyard in Bangkok is a 2-storey nightlife mall housing high-level bars, restaurants and cafes. Located in Thonglor, restaurants specialise in international cuisine, while casual bars serve a wide range of cocktails, imported wines and spirits until late. The mall also has a techno club on the 1st floor, so you’ll be able to enjoy a full night of wining, dining and partying within this purpose-built space. Expert mixologists come from all over the world, including the USA and Australia, providing high-quality cocktails to an international clientele.

Seenspace on Thonglor 13 consists of several bars, restaurants, and cafes. If you grab a table in the outside courtyard, you can enjoy multiple orders sent over from these venues. There’s a wide variety of choice, both in terms of food and drink. During the day, you can sweat it out at TRIBE Boxing Studio and get some work done at Space Oddity Café or Seenspace’s onsite co-working space. 

Badmotel Bangkok is a safe bet for drinks in Thonglor, thanks to its aesthetically pleasing atmosphere, outside garden, and an easy-to-reach location on Sukhumvit 55. The vibrant main bar is downstairs, which takes on a deliberately rough-and-ready design scheme. For a cosier setting, head to the intimate courtyard garden or the artsy upper floors for views of Thonglor. The bar hosts live DJs, who usually spin old-school R&B, funky house, and boogie every night. 

Studio Lam stands up against Bangkok’s mainstream nightlife scene in pretty much every way possible – think old school turntables instead of CDs, herb-infused moonshine instead of Grey Goose, and niche World Music (with a focus on vintage Thai folk music). Seating is sparse, though you’ll find outside benches for the crowd to spill onto when things get busy (usually late weekends). The DJs or live bands playing at Studio Lam are so eclectic, you could get anything from African percussion to Indian vocal choirs. 

Beam is a techno nightclub on the 1st floor of 72 Courtyard. With high-tech speakers under the dancefloor and weekly international DJ sets, the music style you’re most likely to hear is minimal and deep tech-house in the bare, dark main room that’s more reminiscent of European dance clubs. Downstairs, you’ll find a hip-hop room, which has a great atmosphere, while the upstairs main room literally shakes thanks to speakers under the dancefloor. International DJs from as far as Berlin and Tokyo often perform weekly.

Demo and Funky Villa is a 2-in-1 nightclub in Thonglor, where you can enjoy 2 very different nightlife concepts. Funky Villa generally hosts indie bands on the main stage, while the adjacent Demo club is all about heavy bass, techno, house and EDM. There is also a 3rd smaller bar that’s all about hip-hop. Foreigners must pay a cover charge to get in during weekends, but the good thing is that you can swap rooms as and when you please.
