First visit to Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden. Location, facilities, room, staff and food was impeccable. We are frequent guests to both Ystad Saltsjöbad and Villa Strandvägen, both exquisite hotels. But after visiting Grand Hotel in Saltsjöbaden, we have a new favourite! Our 40 sq m LUX room had a stunning ocean view, and despite ongoing renovation of the hotel, we could not help falling in love with the views and atmosphere of this old and impressive building. Dinner in the Franska Matsalen was without exception prepared to perfection - portions ample and pricetags reasonable. Waiters friendly and knowledgeable. And as a bonus we enjoyed recognizing numerous locations and settings from the tv-series “Solsidan”. Only fly in the ointment was really that access to the pool was an additional 250 SEK/head. Otherwise everything top notch. Hope to make it back soon!!!

Hotellet lever uppenbarligen på sin anrika historia och pampiga utseende på ett välbärgat område. Då behöver de inte bry sig så mycket om kvaliteten. Slitna korridorer och rum, vidöppna dörrar till kök och städförråd, Duschen saknade spillkant, mörka gardiner strålade solvärmen in i rummet, som var över 30 grader vid ankomst. Tavlan saknades på väggen. Pengarna verkar istället gå till att hålla en hög personaltäthet i restaurang och barer. Där var det snabb service och många som stod osysselsatta i barerna.

Vi såg fram emot vår vistelse efter att ha fått ett vänligt mejl från hotellet med information om pågående renoveringar. Tyvärr levde upplevelsen inte upp till våra förväntningar – inte ens i närheten. Standard och miljö: Hotellet upplevs mer som ett vandrarhem än ett klassiskt hotell. Rummen är slitna, smutsiga och känns orörda sedan 80-talet. Vi fick vänta på vårt rum trots att klockan var 15:00, då incheckningen skulle börja. Det fanns ingen el vid sängbordet och hela hotellet kändes nedgånget. Säkerhet: Det mest oroande var att flera nödutgångsskyltar var övertäckta eller helt nedmonterade – något som absolut inte är acceptabelt ur ett säkerhetsperspektiv. Spa och utemiljö: “Grand Spa” är i praktiken bara en gammal inomhuspool. Den utlovade möjligheten att sola utomhus fanns inte – man kunde överhuvudtaget inte gå ut någonstans. Hela området runt hotellet är en byggarbetsplats, vilket gör att det inte finns någonstans att vistas utomhus. Personal och service: Personalen försöker verkligen och är trevlig, men många verkar nya och osäkra, vilket leder till lång väntan och brist på servicekänsla – både i reception, restaurang och bar. Mat: Maten var okej, men inte mer än så. Inte vad man väntar sig av ett hotell i den här prisklassen och med detta anrika namn. Helhetsintryck: Det här är inte ett “Grand Hotel” just nu – det är en byggarbetsplats med låg standard. Vi kan tyvärr inte rekommendera ett besök i nuläget.

Under renovering både in- och utvändigt, vilket behövs och vilket de meddelat vid bokning. Men byggsmuts gjorde att man inte kunde gå ut på balkongen. Slitet, trasiga avlopp i badkar, emaljen släppt i badkar, hårfön var trasig i skyddet för inblåset, trög vattenkran, sprickor i tapet. Franska restaurangen mycket trevlig och god mat. Skön säng. Bra mörkläggande gardiner. Dörren tilläggsisolerad så det hördes inget om i rummet från korridoren.
