Massive disappointment - stay elsewhere
Not 5 star. If you want an okay 4* then you might not be disappointed. We stayed for 5 nights and opted for breakfast only. The worst part was the attitude of the staff throughout the stay- Very rude, unfriendly and unhelpful, especially the travel expert who just sat on his phone and unless you were going to the airport just suggested you walked everywhere… he quoted 100US dollars for the journey to the airport which was obscene. We literally walked to BSL taxis (who we would thoroughly recommend) at the end of the drive and arranged a driver to take us to the airport for less than half the price.
The room was a good size and well cleaned by housekeeping who seemed to be the only staff who cared about their job. It was very noisy every morning so if you are hoping for a lie in do not stay here! Breakfast although included in price was chaotic and unpleasant as an experience and after trying it twice we just went else where and would advise to avoid. Overall we would thoroughly recommend Unawatuna as a place to visit but would strongly advise to stay elsewhere as this hotel was such a disappointment! We didn’t eat in the hotel for lunch or dinner as we were just desperate to escape each day and go somewhere else but heard from multiple other guests that the all inclusive options were awful similar to our experience of the breakfast.

This was a beautiful resort - the rooms were spacious, impeccably clean and all the staff were friendly and hospitable. The breakfast buffet is yummy and so is the dinner buffet. I liked that there was a pool on the property but also the beach was easily accessible.
There was only one concern that came up - the first night I arrived to check in, all the rooms were full and I was unable to get my room on a higher floor as expected. Staff tried their best to be very accommodating and moved me as soon as possible, especially Kalum at the front desk - thank you for helping to sort this out and ensure I had a great stay in Unawatuna.

Exceptional
We cannot rate the hotel and the staff highly enough. The front of house staff, the waiting staff the pool boys, the bar staff were all exceptional. They are all very friendly and extremely helpful. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome, they can't do enough for you during your stay. We had an issue when we were there and Mr Adikari and Mr Rizan and their team bent over backwards to assist us. We really can't thank them and praise them enough for their efforts. Thank you. We will be back.

Great Stay
Had a Great experience at Araliya.
Location was excellent with beach at the resort as well amazing sea views. The hotel room is generously spacious which was a big plus especially for our crawling baby. Sashika and her housekeeping team which included Dasindu Sandaruwan were excellent in maintaining all our houskeeping promptly and efficiently throughout the stay. I think this department has improved significantly from what we read previously. The room service staff, Kumar and his team, were really great in catering for us throughout our 7day stay. Even tiptoed and whispered in the room whilst our baby was sleeping. Breakfeast was good but there are areas than can be improved for instance better food variety and perhaps a less cluttered area considering that 2 halls are available. Sometimes there were issues of miscommunication especially telephonically, english was not always clearly understood. The beach area at the resort is public and is quite narrow with boats parked there but no fault of the resorts. Overall, a pleaseant and joyful experience. Thank you.
