Very good 8.0
weekend stay
Restaurant totally over priced. £22 for mediocre fish in breadcrumbs with 3 chips. Sanitiser provided but zero cleaning of tables between use - bad! Bad service in bar. One fellow resident asked us if we had served ourselves after they had waited 10 mins plus for barman to appear

lovely hotel
This is a very nice place to stay. We had one of the cheapest rooms and it was very comfortable. Staff are lovely and helpful.

Good 6.0
Room was old and small - for £210 a night we expected something a lot better. Room service order wrong and just an ok will pass on - when called down. Steaks where over cooked and really standard. Grounds are beautiful and staff were helpful with the steak issue but had to push to get an ok refund. Not the best experience. Probably wouldn’t stay again.

£500 night away - some issues need sorting out
My partner's employer love this place so I took her for a night away as a special treat knowing it would be around £500. I expected great things. Room was large but a little old fashioned. Drinks in the bar before dinner were slow to arrive and very expensive (even for a premium hotel) - £20 for a glass of Kir Royal and £13 for a glass of mediocre white wine are the sort of prices I might expect in a five star London hotel. The waiter was unable to provide the wine I selected at £55 but agreed to replace this with his suggestion which he agreed to charge at the same price. More of this later. Dinner got off to a poor start as we were given a table less than a metre away from another couple in the middle of the room next to the waiter station. I asked to be moved to a more private table which was agreed to with much gallic shrugging and whislting through teeth. Food was excellent and reasonably priced unlike the wine. A good night's sleep in a comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb, with more friendly service and exquisite food but again very slow service. My partner had a hot stone massage which she loved, one of the best she has ever had apparently. On being presented with the bill 10% gratuity had been added to all items of food and beverage which came as a surprise. Rather more annoying was the fact that I had been charged £117 for the "euqivalent" bottle of wine over dinner. This was rectified after a discussion. Not great for £500. Should have done Champneys.

Great place, really nice and professional staff. Clean rooms, recommend. Didn't try the spa facilities though...the surroundings are amazing for walk, picnic, admire the landscape

49 steps to room and no lift. Restaurant service was a bit like an upmarket Fawlty Towers. Old world charm and beautiful grounds are its saving graces.

Extremely clean and fabulous service. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Sanitising stations and additional cleaning evident whilst not detracting from an enjoyable experience.

Beautiful Stay
Overall, we had a very nice visit to the Ashdown Park Hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated and quite spacious. We loved the view of the gardens as well. The food was delicious. We loved the afternoon tea and then our dinner at the hotel restaurant was equally as delicious. Our only negative experience was that the service overall wasn't warm and welcoming nor was it attentive. We sat for over an hour trying to get our bill for the afternoon tea. We did feel like the service was much better within the dining room, but found that the drawing rooms service was terribly slow.
