Something very very strange is happening at this property. Go look at another guest’s review on bookingdotcom.
I’ll spare the details, but to say when we showed up with two reservations they couldn’t find either. They eventually got us our rooms but then asked if we were staying one night. No, 4. The next day they asked one of us to voluntarily downgrade from a two bedroom suite to a 1 bedroom with no compensation because they double booked. We said no. We were told now they’re in trouble with the manager.
We were told weird stories about a manager who ran away with the staff payroll. The owner is in Germany caring for a dying mother. Breakfast was included but they tried to charge us $300 for it at checkout. We overheard them telling another guest at checkout that Expedia and booking don’t give them any money so if they didn’t pay for the reservation again, the staff would have to pay for their stay lol.
The hotel itself is beautiful. Breakfast was good. The furniture is beautiful and expensive, nothing ikea or cheap here. So what is going on?
My guess? The owner abandoned the property or is away, the staff live at the hotel, and are trying to extort guests for as much as they can at checkout.
Having stayed at hundreds of hotels this by far qualifies as the strangest experience ever. It’s a shame because the property is awesome but stay very, very far away. Actually, the Billini hotel nearby is a much better and more sane choice.
