8/10 Very good

The outside of the building could do with some updating but inside was fine apart from the dirty and cracked window. Plenty of kitchen equipment and comfortable seats and bed. Shower room was lovely and towels provided. Nice garden to sit out and have a drink. Overall a nice stay.

4/10 Fair

Before you read this review, we are not fussy people and can usually make the best of any situation. We are not able to get away very often so were looking forward to a relaxing 3 nights away. We stayed one night, and only because we arrived at a late time and could not find alternative accomodation, and then we left first thing the next morning The apartment was nothing like the photos. I think the photos must have been taken a VERY long time ago when everything was new. Furniture and sofa looked very very old and grubby. It was really cold and smelled musty and damp. The heating wasn't working and the two small electric radiators made no difference at all. The cookware was old and scratched and the glasses, cups and crockery were mismatched and poor quality. The two single beds pushed together were at completely different heights with the most uncomfortable mattresses we've ever slept on. The curtains in the bedroom did not close properly and the view from the window was of old materials and rubbish. There were no staff on site and, when we rang the property contact number we were offered another apartment which was in many ways worse! Leaky shower, flashing bulbs and a room with 4 single beds with only one chair. For the price charged we would at least expect it to be clean and comfortable which was not the case. We were so disappointed and it ruined our rare weekend away.

2/10 Poor

Disappointing stay – not as described Unfortunately, our stay at Harvieston Hall Estate Rooms was very disappointing, and the accommodation was not as described or pictured. The room was not as shown in the photographs, and the overall condition of the property was poor. The curtains were frayed, the carpet was dirty, and some of the flooring was uneven. The corridors were also dirty and difficult to navigate. There was ongoing building work during the daytime, which added to the disruption. The bathroom was dirty, while the kitchen had a lingering unpleasant odour. The appliances were not functional, which was particularly disappointing for accommodation advertised with kitchen facilities. We had booked for five people but were only provided with four beds. The advertised garden view was also misleading, as the view was actually onto what appeared to be a rubbish pit. The gardens themselves consisted largely of a driveway rather than the pleasant garden setting we had expected. Overall, the accommodation fell well below our expectations and did not match the description or photographs provided when booking. We were so unhappy with the stay that we left early. We would not recommend the Family Suite, particularly for families or groups expecting clean, well-maintained accommodation that matches the advertised description.

8/10 Very good

Ignore Karen’s review! Don’t be afraid to stay here. This is a lovely, quirky place. Super clean. Quiet. Check in was a breeze. There were two people waiting for us when we arrived and someone carried everything upstairs for us. It was a great place to stop overnight. We stayed on the top floor in a very big, pretty room that fit five (we were 4). Shared bathroom, but we were the only ones upstairs, so no big deal. The little black cat is super friendly and likes a little love. The chickens too. Fantastic restaurants nearby and easy access to Edinburgh. We loved it.

2/10 Poor

We arrived late to the accommodation, having informed the hosts in advance. Access directions were accurate . The ‘old’ house is not in a good state of repair and Flat 7b requires serious cleaning and decor repair . The carpets were heavily stained, as was the sofa (to the point of not using it), with dubious markings in the beds. The ceiling was stained (above the bed) .The kitchen cleaning materials & Tea towel had obviously been used by the previous occupants. One of the showers failed to work at all. There are not hotel personnel on site - all communication is via the Hotel.Com app. The views from the windows are of a building in decay .. such a shame for a once majestic building.. Due to late arrival, we stayed one night out of three and ‘checked out’ the following morning.

2/10 Poor

Possibly the worst place I’ve ever stayed. I didn’t receive the check in instructions, so on arriving had to spend around an hour trying to figure things out. There are no staff at the property and the phone number on their website is incorrect. Room had no bin, no mirror or tea & coffee facilities. This is a basic. No outdoor lighting and slippery broken decking steps is a health and safety hazard. Another guest kept leaving the main door open, and one night I took my dog out in the night to find other guests out in the garden smoking drugs. Absolutely unacceptable on all counts.
