Not so great
Bad to say the least:
• Bugs found in some breakfast items.
• No 'Do not disturb' signs.
• No way of contacting the front desk from the phone in the room.
• no hot water/tea/coffee in room
• loud at night. Either fireworks or a loud festival. Couldn't sleep at all.
• no hot water for sink or shower. Only lukewarm water.
• no complimentary water bottles.
• no new body towels or washcloths given. Only new floor towels daily.
• staff not helpful with issues
• internet connection was bad. Hardly worked.
Check in is at 3pm, yet my reservation said I could check in at 1pm.
Also, they weren't flexible about late check-out.

Convenient Hotel
The room was spacious and had plenty of space for us to hang and store our clothing. The roof top area was a nice feature. Breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful.

The hotel overbooked with hotels.com and wasn't able to accommodate us at all. We had to spend the evening looking for a place to stay.

Great staff and beautiful location
The Badillo Zen is small and charming. I would say that the staff were really great and went above and beyond to assist us. The room was clean, however there wasn't a closet, nor hooks to hang anything up. That would make a nice touch. The pool also could be a bit cleaner, though I didn't want to swim in front of the lobby desk and the main walkway path. There is a great rooftop patio and breakfast is great.
Overall nice hotel and I would recommend.

Room for improvement
Mixed feelings about this hotel - great location in the walled city and definitely has potential, but needs improvement before I would recommend the place. Our stay started off with an email the day before arrival saying the hotel was cancelling our reservation because they were overbooked! Hotels.com managed to fix this for us, but of course we were put in the worst room possible when we got there. If you are put in a room on the first floor, leave immediately. The room was tiny, windowless, depressing, old, and overall awful. We were able to negotiate a better room for the next two nights, which was much bigger, had a balcony, and was overall more acceptable. The hotel overall though is very old feeling, has run down bathrooms, old looking furniture, etc. Maybe that's just what you get in the walled city unless you're paying a fortune, but overall I would not recommend this hotel as I think you can do better for the same price.
Also, the "pool" is not a pool at all - literally a fountain that is basically in the reception area that wouldn't fit more than your feet. Even if you wanted to put your feet in, it's right next to the front desk so it's far too awkward to use.

Nice and Cozy place!
Casa Badillo Zen is a cozy little bed and breakfast in the middle of the very romantic and nice Cartagena Centro Historico. Hotel is very clean and with very nice ambiance. Staff was courteous and willing to solve any situation. Rooms are very clean and the bedding was excellent. Rooms are not very spacious and lack a closet, so hanging clothes maybe a problem. Breakfast was hot and table served. Loading and Unloading your luggage may be an issue as the Hotel entrance is right on the very narrow street and the Hotel has no parking. If you bring your own car be ready to find a parking lot, there's one very close to the Hotel that is by the University of Cartagena.

Not a Zen experience. Do not stay at this hotel.
At check out the hotel charged much more than the agreed to price. The hotel is filthy, the beds are full of sand, the breakfast is borderline rancid and the day staff is nasty, rude and unhelpful (after 30 years of traveling, some of the worst hotel staff I have experienced). The one exception is the night staff man, Antonio, who is very sweet. He should be promoted and everyone else fired. It is ironic that this hotel is called Badillo Zen. It is as far away from a Zen experience that you can have. So many other better choices in Cartagena.

El hotel es lindo pero no tuvimos suerte pues el comedor estaba en remodelación y la electricidad de la calle y el hotel falló 2 días, nos quedamos sin aire acondicionado, sin T.V. etc. Nos movieron a otro hotel el último día y se portaron muy bien.

Great neighborhood, lots of restaurants/bars within walking distance of the hotel. Overall the hotel was great; however, I was not impress with the breakfast service... I've stayed at the sister hotel Badillo Galeria, which has a buffet style breakfast bar... Perhaps something management should integrate at Badillo Zen. Also the outdoor rooftop terrace has great potential, but it was never illuminated at night, such a great outdoor space to enjoy the moon and the stars in enchanting Cartagena De Indias

Nunca pude ver TV pues no supieron solventar problemas con el operador de TV.
A la piscina solo le da el sol a medio dia. El Aire Acondicionado no era suficiente para una suite.

Hotel is well located near to bars and restaurants
The staff were very friendly. The room was very clean and the comfortable bed had beautiful crisp linen. The bathroom was small but adequate with hot water and nice white towels. Our room had a small balcony with flowers which was a nice surprise.
There is a plunge pool on the ground floor.
Breakfast was good.
I would only recommend that they smartened up the entrance hall/ breakfast/ kitchen area as it did not meet same standard as rest of hotel. However the most important thing was the room which was excellent value in an ideal location.
We would definitely recommend.

Das Personal war sehr hilfsbereit, jedoch hatten sie während unserem Aufenthalt Probleme mit dem Wasser. Dusche funktionierte dadurch nur beschränkt!:-(
