Interesting cheap stay
An unusual building with an interesting history. We had seen the comments about difficulty checking in but everything went very smoothly even though we did not meet any staff. The layout of the room reflected the conversion but it was large and comfortable. Very good value for money. The well equiped shared kitchen would have been good for a longer stay. It is right next to Mt Panorama so we went for an early morning drive to enjoy the sunshine on the hill and mist in the valley. Only a few minutes drive to town but would be hard without a car. Not a standard motel but we enjoyed it

Difficulllty with gaining access to the building. I had been given an incorrect access pin. No one present at the office. Needed to phone & arrange correct pin code.

Disappointing
Disappointed with my long stay, never met host during stay, no one was ever at reception. Had to call a mobile number to get more toilet paper and fresh towels. Found 2 to 3 spiders crawling around in room, spray is provided but shouldn't the host make sure the room is cleaned properly. Our sheets were never changed during our long stay. Called mobile in regards to this was emailed conditions of staying at the Hallows, it states house keeping would do a service of the room after one week. The sheets were never changed even after the week. It started in the email if we wanted new sheets there would be a cost of $25.00, for the service. I understand if our beds was stripped down after the week and we wanted a additional service that there would be a further cost. I called the host on day 9 and asked when was our beds stripped and new sheets put down, he could not give me an answer and said he would get back to me he never did. If the beds were stripped then it would look professionally done with the sheets tucked in. Each afternoon we came to our rooms the bed was still the same as we left it in the morning. My colleague also stayed for the same amount of time and his sheets were never changed. I emailed the host saying if we stayed for 1 night and left the next morning, all the bed would be stripped down and the sheets would be replaced with new sheets for the next person who booked in, isn't that the case?

Great, clean accommodation.
Room was immaculate, great sized bar fridge. clean and generous sized bathroom. Easy to park. Really secure needing key to access front door, helpful when travelling solo with a 6 week old.

This is not a hotel. It's an old school converted to accommodation. Very freaky. Maybe suits pack backers.

Good 6.0
The accommodation is an old heritage building that would benefit from some TLC and a fair bit of money invested in its upkeep, but is nevertheless pleasant. The room was comfortable, with a lovely view, and a verandah to sit on nearby. It was also very clean, as were the shared spaces such as kitchen and public sitting areas. The place is very quiet, although the fridge in my room hummed so loudly I had to wear earplugs all night. What I didn't like was being misled about what the hotel has to offer. The information on the site said that Reception would greet guests on arrival. There was no Reception staff for the 3 days I was there. The only way to contact staff was to ring a mobile number. Bottled water, 'free toiletries' and biscuits in the room were advertised but not provided. These are not things I look for or care about, so would not have affected my choice of this accommodation, but the information should be correct. The biggest surprise was that I got a discounted room which I thought was an Expedia special, but it turned out it was because the room wasn't serviced. I don't mind saving money by making my own bed, but this should be clarified on the site. For all those disadvantages, the system works fairly well in terms of organisation, cleanliness and the state of appliances, etc. All in all, The Hallows has a certain charm, but it's more like a backpacker hostel than a hotel, and the misleading advertising is a real problem.
