Nice hotel, great on a budget.
Really nice hotel, simple features but tastefully done. The room was clean and spacious, on the simple side, yet that didn't compromise a cosy feeling. The hotel is instantly recognisable on the street which is a double edged sword, as from the outside it looks really nice, yet it contrasts the local area quite distinctively. In all honesty, most of NY was not as clean as I had expected, but the taxes there are low so maybe that's to be expected. Their were two issues with the hotel however: firstly the restaurant was closed due to failing to meet cleanliness standards. A fact I struggled to believe as the rest of the hotel was very clean. The second issue was that the other occupants were "noisy" during the night. you can hear other rooms TV sets if those are up loudly, as well as the other occupants either shouting at each other, or communicating in other ways, with little consideration for their fellow occupants. All in all, for the price of the hotel, and the convenience of our location to the subway into Manhattan, I was relatively content and would recommend staying here to anyone who is not a light sleeper and wanting good, clean quality, on a budget.

Lovely, clean hotel with great services. Close to subway for easy and quick access to Manhattan. Great value, especially compared to the places we stayed in Manhattan. Everyone at the hotel welcomed us and helped us throughout our stay. Couldn’t have asked for more.

what a Gem!
this was right up our street! the hotel was perfect for our family of 3! we stayed for 10 nights and cant complain... our 4 year old loved the café bar area for breakfast ( especially dancing on the stage) every single staff member were extremely welcoming. the rooms are clean and use the space well... the walls are thin and if you are facing the train tracks be prepared for noise... we moved after one night facing the tracks, but when we asked it was not a problem for staff... if your staying only a few nights it probably wouldn't bother you. the area where the hotel is, was great, so diverse with great restaurants ( recommend Santa Panza, Buntopia and BK Bagels for breakfast) and the subway is a few minutes walk away which takes you to Manhattan. after staying in Manhattan several times, I would only stay in Brooklyn now, cheaper, easy access to the City and has lots of character!

Pleasantly Surprised... Great cheap find!
I booked looking for something cheap and quick and was pleasantly surprised to find so much more! My room was generally clean and really spacious. Hotel was in a cool location - quick links to the city via local subway, local music spots nearby and the deli downstairs was a great touch. I'd read reviews about the trains keeping people up but I actually found them quite soothing and enjoyed the view of the tracks from my room - just remember to close your blinds when getting changed if you're on the 4th floor which is level with the tracks! I didn't have the free coffee or pastries, but I did make use of the bar which was great. Nate was lovely, friendly and accommodating and created a great vibe to hang out having drinks with friends. There was also a games room in the basement that was really cute. My complaints -if any- were that the housekeeping team were quite loud and persistent very early in the morning. My shower wasn't totally clean and despite pointing this out it wasn't solved, I also found food stains on my sheets that were freshly changed. They were otherwise very helpful. Lastly I think it's great that the bar and downstairs area are open to the public, but as a woman staying alone I would feel much better if the elevators were operated by room card only so that there was a clear boundary for guests. Overall I was really happy, desk staff were polite and nice, bar staff were amazing, room was cute. I would definitely go back!

ASK FOR QUIET ROOM AT BACK OF BUILDING
RL Hotel looks quite out of place in what on first glance doesn't seem to be the friendliest of areas. Inside hotel I did feel very safe. First night here was a bit of a disaster. My room window backed onto the subway tracks (literally metres away) with trains going by all night, my other wall backed onto the elevator which beeps at every floor. The third wall backed onto another room where the guests were smoking pot and listening to TV so loudly I couldn't he's right every word. At 2am I went down to 'reception'* to request to move rooms and it was all getting too much. They were fully booked that night, however the staff were apologetic, offered ear plugs and went to the other guest room and asked them to turn off their TV. After getting over the nauseating smell of pot, I finally got some sleep. The following morning I wasn't moved to a room at the back on the building that was MUCH quieter. Make sure you request a room at the back of the building on arrival. *Reception is basically a computer at the back wall of the entrance. You might struggle to work out who actually works there and who doesn't. No uniform or identifying badge. If you hang around long enough someone asks if you're there to check in. Cafe/Bar downstairs is great. However, no vegan or vegetarian food options are available. Again, server was very apologetic. Some other cafes are available closeby. They will store your suitcase after check out for you. I would stay again for the price.
