Highly recommend Silk House

A clean, comfortable, and convenient hotel right in the town centre. Very quiet and plenty of free on-street parking just around the corner. Modernised facilities in an historic building.

8/10 Very good

Was able to Check in at 12. Booked 3 rooms. Rooms had everything we needed with updated bathrooms. Lots of character within the building. Continental breakfast was good and managers were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Was a pleasure to meet them and stay at this hotel.

We had just the one night at the Silk House - and what a great night it was. Nick the owner was the most convivial of hosts and we had a great night in the bar singing, dancing and generally making merry. The room itself was quirky and comfortable although a little too warm. (Couldn't really open the window as it was on a main road). But otherwise a great stay! Thank you Nick!

Lovely Independent Hotel with Exceptional Service

Stayed there for valentines, Nick upgraded us to a better room as we were a couple which was lovely. I had a tyre blowout the next morning and he couldn’t do enough to help. Sourced me another tyre and got us going again. What a gent - would recommend to anyone and everyone.

8/10 Very good

Needs a refresh, but a good and convenient place.

The location of this hotel is fantastic for visiting the middle of the town. The staff members we met were lovely and help. The overall was however met down by a tired looking room. Despite the building being grade 2 listed some definite improvements could be made. In our room, for example, the shower holder was broken so we couldn't take a shower without holding the nozel. The towel radiator was stuck on so the bathroom was roasting. The sealing around the sink wasn't done with much care. The biggest issue however, was the bed. For some reason the mattress that was on the bed was bigger than the actual bed frame. This meant that the outside 6 inches of the bed on both sides were unusable as the mattress would bend as there was no support. I would stay here again, but not for the full price of the room. Overall a pleasant stay, the place just needs some tlc.

6/10 Good

Helpful when I asked to change rooms from the noisey street-side room, still very warm on top floor. Disappointed in scratchy towels, telly with a line down it, was expecting much better for the price. Owner very friendly and chatty

Great location

Lovely building in a great location. No parking but street parking around the corner. Lovely bathroom with a huge roll top bath but not enough hot water to enjoy it, a shower would be more practical.
Jane, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The family room was excellent, it had a separate area for the children to sleep so we were able to relax in the evening. The lady who greated us was so lovely, warm and helpful.

6/10 Good

Good location but no parking as advertised.

We only booked this hotel because it was advertised as having ‘parking available’ but it was general street parking - there was no designated parking which is obviously what we expected. There was no bedside cabinet on one side - so no lamp, and no way to turn out the light except to get out of bed. The table lamp we did have was very cheap looking and flickered. There was no mirror in the room - only in the bathroom and that misted up after our bath. The Jacuzzi bath was good, if a little noisy. Water pressure wasn’t great. Our room faced the road so lots of traffic noise for most of the night. Host was welcoming and polite.
