Antipodean Cafe is a charming and trendy restaurant situated on Jalan Telawi 2 in Bangsar, which attracts a large crowd for its all-day breakfast menu. It is an ideal place for a relaxed and leisurely meal and has become one of the most talked-about eateries in the city. Whether you are a fan of a hearty burrito wrap or a healthy avocado on toast, the food served at this restaurant is definitely impressive.

We love their quirky menu, which is scribbled with colourful chalk on one of the blackboard-style walls. The food here ticks all the right boxes, with super tasty Western standards available like pizzas and pastas, but most visitors prefer the kitchen’s breakfast offerings. Standouts on the menu include the classic all-day breakfast, which includes a combo plate of crispy buttered toast, pan-fried sausages, baked beans, scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes.

    Fierce Curry House

    For classic Indian cuisine

    Fierce Curry House
    • Food

Fierce Curry House serves some of the best banana leaf rice in the city. The restaurant's interior design is simple and unpretentious, allowing the food to take centre stage. With a menu featuring dishes from all over India, the most popular choice is banana leaf rice, which comes with four vegetables and all the trimmings. The restaurant's classic side dishes like chicken tikka masala, mutton varuval and tandoori tiger prawns suitably complement the rice.

However, the ultimate reason to visit Fierce Curry House is to try the Hyderabad dum biryani – a pot of perfectly seasoned Basmati rice with spices and meat heaped on top, making for a satisfying dish from start to finish. If you're not a fan of rice, try the roti Nutella, a fluffy and buttery flatbread filled with melted chocolate. And to quench your thirst, go for the mango lassi, a refreshing blend of mango juice, spices and yoghurt.

Prime is a steakhouse at the Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur that is a paradise for meat lovers. With its great cuts of meat, generously portioned to indulge the heartiest of appetites and low-key romantic setting, it's the perfect spot for a date.

The hotel is located right beside KL Sentral station, making it easily accessible. The award-winning kitchen has a menu that encompasses not just steaks but also classic Western dishes. However, it's their steaks that truly deserve star billing. Ranging from bone-in cuts to slabs of differing marbling and gradients, the meats are imported from Australia, Japan, Argentina, and the USA. A popular choice is their prime rib in a light black truffle jus. A welcome treat for carnivores, it's a hefty slab of meat done up lightly crisp on the outside and deep pink on the inside, making for bite after bite of tender, juicy, and buttery-tasting beef.

It is easily distinguished by the 30-metre dragon structure hanging from the ceiling, and is one of the most popular dining venues among Bangsar’s expat community, thanks to its innovative Thai-Japanese menu.

Highly recommended is the tom yum udon, which consists of Japanese udon noodles, prawns, squid, eggs, and mushrooms in a spicy tom yum broth. • Luxury

The award-winning and spacious Ming Room in Bangsar Shopping Centre is a Cantonese fine-dining restaurant that repeatedly garners positive reviews for its classic dishes with contemporary touches. Particularly popular for its Hong Kong dim sum selections, it features six exclusive banquet rooms that can accommodate up to 300 people.

The Ming Room's menu is vast, with signature dishes given Western fusion touches. We recommend the baked foie gras with stuffed sea clams, crispy prawns with soft shell crab in honeydew, steamed freshwater prawns with radish cake, and river carp medallion in stock. Service is speedy, and there is even a pricey and predominantly Australian wine list.

    Jarrod & Rawlins Bangsar

    British-inspired flavours in Bangsar

    Jarrod & Rawlins Bangsar
    • Food

Considered an institution in Kuala Lumpur’s food scene, Jarrod & Rawlins is an award-winning Western restaurant in Bangsar with a well-deserved, glowing reputation for its British-inspired food. Pulling in a steady crowd, breakfast is particularly popular – our favourite is J & R’s breakfast, a combo of rich and flavorful pork sausage and crispy and savoury bacon rashers, mushrooms, runny sunny-side-up eggs, grilled tomatoes, and two slices of homemade toast.

Drinks-wise, characteristic of a British pub, beers rule the menu with brews like Guinness, Tiger, Heineken, and more available, but we highly recommend the spicy Bloody Mary, the perfect complement to the kitchen’s breakfast offerings. Their specialty is meat available in all varieties, with many people visiting the in-house butcher’s deli to take away the ‘homemade’ pork, chicken, beef, and lamb sausages, as well as kebabs and pies.

    Yeast Bistronomy

    For French-inspired delights

    Yeast Bistronomy
    • Food
    • Luxury

Yeast Bistronomy is a quaint, French-themed eatery on Jalan Telawi 2 in Bangsar. A bakery, restaurant, and wine bar combo, its dine-in menu focuses on French cuisine given Asian touches, like grilled bamboo king prawn with saffron risotto and seared Hokkaido scallop. Also good is mesclun lardons (egg salad) and their quiche Lorraine.

At the bakery, madeleines and macaroons are great, but the astonishingly soft and flavoursome artisan French breads, ranging from its bestseller almond croissant to the rare smoked duck cheese puff have christened this our all-time favourite tea-time haunt in KL.
