It’s no surprise that most of the nightlife in Chidlom and Ploenchit is centred around the plethora of fine hotels that fill this small and compact area of central Bangkok. From stunning rooftop bars to underground nightclubs, a good portion of the best nightlife in Chidlom is comprised of venues inside, on top of, or underneath hotels.
All of the bars, pubs and clubs in Ploenchit and Chidlom that have made our list can be accessed by taking the BTS Skytrain to either Chidlom or Ploenchit, and you can walk then from there. While the area is better known for its endless supply of malls, rows of exclusive hotels and numerous international embassies, this list is proof that there is life after dark in Chidlom!

The Speakeasy at Hotel Muse
- Nightlife
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar at Hotel Muse really is like no other rooftop bar in Bangkok. While most drinking spots perched on top of hotels and office blocks across the capital focus mainly on the views, The Speakeasy is all about the bar itself, which is truly inspiring.
Taking its name from the underground bars during the prohibition era in America, The Speakeasy has a 1920s theme running throughout. Classic cocktails are mixed to the sound of funky jazz in the background, with seating options either at the bar, around the edge, or on the garden terrace on the 2nd (and top) floor. Another real highlight to this rooftop bar is the smoking lounge, The Blind Pig, where you can purchase a Cuban cigar, don your very own smoking jacket, sit back with a vintage bourbon and pretend you’re Al Capone for the night.

The grand idea of a visit to Penthouse is to move through the venues to experience the particulars of each – all grouped around a smart ‘Bachelor Pad’ concept. There’s a swanky cocktail bar which hosts DJs spinning lounge house and nu-disco and a ‘speakeasy’ bar that's found by following the passageway through a pine wall and into a whisky bar that has a live pianist from 9pm.

Diplomat Bar at Conrad Hotel
- Couples
- Luxury
- Nightlife
Diplomat Bar takes its name from the fact that it sits right in the heart of Bangkok’s Embassy District. With its sumptuous lighting, sexy silk couches and glitzy round bar, this place is the perfect spot for a passing ambassador, too. Although anybody can get in (as long as you’re not dressed for the beach), the crowd is comprised of mostly wealthy businessmen staying in one of the nearby luxury hotels, rich Thai couples and, of course, high-profile diplomats.
The elitist vibe is completed with some soft live jazz every night, high prices on rare wines and whiskeys and some 5-star customer service from the attentive wait staff.
Location: The Conrad Hotel, Lobby Level, 87 Witthayu Rd, Lumphini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
Open: Sunday–Thursday from 7am to 1am, Friday–Saturday from 7am to 2am

Spasso at Grand Hyatt Erawan
- Food
- Nightlife
This classy Italian restaurant inside Bangkok’s luxurious Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel may seem more like a place to indulge in delicious pasta or pizzas in the daytime, but this stylish space is most loved for its nightclub. Every evening from 10pm the level of sophistication is turned up a notch as a live band takes to the stage until 2am, playing international dance with a jazzy twist.
This place is well known for drawing in Bangkok’s prettiest people, as well as those with some cash to splash. Although that might put some off, the venue does boast a genuinely cool ambience with its flamboyant design, multiple seating options, including some towering bars stools where you can watch your mixologist create superb cocktails.
Location: Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, 494 Ratchadamri Rd, Lumphini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand

Groove at CentralWorld
- Food
- Nightlife
While this modern and upmarket complex of restaurants and bars at CentralWorld is better known for its culinary delights rather than its booming nightlife scene, most of the joints here stay open late, presenting a great opportunity for some post-shopping or post-work (or post-anything, come to think of it) drinks.
The best places to wet your whistle at Groove include the excellent HOBS (House of Beers) for its range of – you guessed it – beers, as well as the stylish Wine I Love You and Wabi/Sabi Japanese & Sake Bar (all on the first floor of Groove, open until 1am). If you’re hungry, the best spot for European food is 1881 by Water Library. If you want some fancy Thai food, head to Apinara Thai Cuisine and Bar on the 2nd floor.
Location: CentralWorld, 999/9 Rama I Rd, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand

Read moreMixx has earned a reputation throughout the entire city for being a popular after-hours nightclub to hit. The club can be accessed through the basement of the InterContinental Hotel; a central location that inevitably means that it’s mostly tourists who frequent the place.
Mixx nightclub has 2 rooms; the first is bigger and busier with hip-hop and chart hits, while the other is dedicated to more underground techno and house music. Entrance is normally around 350 baht (with one free drink) unless you’re planning on buying a bottle of whiskey or vodka, which can be purchased before you go inside. Mixx continuously changes its closing hours. Depending on the night – and the mood of the local police - it can go on until 5am, while on other nights music might suddenly stop as early as 2am.

Embassy Diplomat Screens
- Couples
- Luxury
- Nightlife
This cinema at Central Embassy shopping mall may well be Bangkok’s most luxurious place to watch a movie. The Central Group have invested a whopping 120 million baht into the cinema, making it one of the most expensive in the world. Designers certainly have gone the extra mile on almost every aspect, making the whole cinema experience feel more like being in the business-class area of a jumbo jet. The cocooned seating booths are fully reclinable with pillows and blankets and you also get your own mini bar, a butler service call button and snacks.
The seating numbers are limited too, meaning the whole cinema feels much more private and intimate compared to other nearby competition. There's a private VIP bar for some refreshments to start or complete your evening in ultimate sophistication. Tickets start at around 1,200 baht per person (including drinks).
