We have stayed at the St James before and the standard is still very good, in spite of the renovation works, which are nicely disguised.
That said, even for a London Hotel, £10 for a cup of coffee is a bit steep.

Beautiful hotel rooms are so nice and luxurious.
The breakfast had a really good variety but it was extremely busy and uncomfortable when there was rude people who had no sense of spatial awareness I found it uncomfortable and had breakfast in my room.
Also be aware that the bar area is closed
Staff were really good and helpful in every area.
