Iconic hotel but beware if arriving by car
Iconic hotel in the very heart of Edinburgh a short walk from the main attractions. Rooms are a decent size and service good. Only thing was arriving by car is a nightmare, very limited space to stop and unload and very expensive daily parking rate.

Exceptional 10.0
superb stay with 10/10 for cleaniness
We had 2 nights in The Balmoral. Everything about it was superb, especially the cleanliness in current times, we felt very safe. The turn down service was lovely with the little added touch of putting our slippers by the bed. Would 100% recommend a stay to anyone.

Good not great.
Great service but the Brasserie menu was poor and the food not very good. Lovely surroundings and very friendly, professional staff.

Good 6.0
A little bland
My partner and I were so looking forward to our stay at the balmoral and expected something a bit special, when in actual fact the entire experience felt lacking. From the entrance lobby to the decor in the rooms, such as a cheap Sean Connery glass print in the toilet - something you would expect to see in a premier inn bathroom, nothing really screamed 5 star or felt particularly warm about the welcome & service. Perhaps the Covid-masking could have a role to play in this as guests and staff must all wear masks at all times. We went for the tasting Menu One evening at Grazing, within the Waldorf Astoria, and the experience there felt completely different. A far grander lobby and bar area, the concierge was so attentive that we went back the following day for tea and got the same warm welcome on arrival, with plenty of local tips. Guests also did not have to wear masks in that hotel, only staff. To be honest, we found a more engaging experience in the local bars and restaurants - cold town house, the bon Vivant, angels with bagpipes, to name a few. I would also recommend the mountebank comedy walking tour - Daniel is a Stand up comic by night and a great guide. Now we’re not saying that The Balmoral is a bad hotel as the rooms were certainly comfortable and location spot on, but we were just expecting something a bit more grandeur and with an attentive service.

Fantastic hotel in a great location
Very accommodating- couldn’t recommended more highly. A little wear and tear around the room - with a few of the finishes e.g. grouting a little hap dash, however, overall a very pleasant stay with a hotel who couldn’t do more for you. Will 100% be staying here again and very much looking forward to it!
