Cheap hotel, good location but tired rooms
Great location, only a short walk into the main part. You can see the botanical gardens from the room which is well worth a visit. After reading a lot of reviews on other hotel booking websites we were slightly horrified about what we were going into. However, we'd paid upfront and there's no option of a refund so we went prepared. We took our own towels and bedding as well as cleaning products. The staff were great, accommodating our late arrival and talking us through how to get to the car park around the backstreet. The car park is just really a yard which can just about squeeze 5 cars in. There's evidence both sides of the wall where people have done damage to there car as well as a meteor sized pot hole in the centre of the yard. We were cheerfully informed this too had damaged cars previously. The entrance is down a very narrow cobbled street which makes swinging your car in or reversing, which I ended up having to do, quite tricky. So "parking available" is a stretch. On entering the room, which is really quite a stunning space, we were met with an odd array of furniture (with handles missing) but a reasonably comfortable bed. Both bathroom and bedroom have beautiful high ceilings and huge windows. They really could be quite beautiful if decorated properly. The bathroom suit was very old and tired with enamel flaking away in the bottom of the tub. The shower was hot and reliable and the toilet seat was properly attached, so no issues there. But all needed a good clean.

Complete joke. Do not stay here!
Got to the hotel on to be told that they were full and that I wasn't booked in. Eventually the guy realised that I was in the self catering flat, which according to him was 'just past the next set of traffic lights, 5 minutes away'. He said he would text his boss and she would then phone me to arrange to meet me at the flat and give me directions, full address etc. Walked for 20 minutes to get to the road that I was told, but received no phone call from her so I called the hotel, I explained that I had been told the name of the road but nothing else and the owner gave me the number and told me she would meet me at the front door. Got to the front door and a young man came out and showed me to my room. He gave me the wifi password. He gave me the wrong code to open the front door, fortunately I found this out before leaving. The room had 3 beds, a double bed and single bed pushed next to each other, and a single bed lying on it's side next to the door. Two of the three windows had curtains, the one that didn't being the one next to the bed. The TV had no remote control and when I eventually managed to turn it on, it only picked up 1 channel, which was very jumpy and had no sound. I also realised that as I had been put in a self catering flat I would not be getting the breakfast they advertise. I received no hint of apology throughout my stay. I had chosen the hotel based on it's location, which, considering I ended up 20 mins walk away was completely pointless.

Poor 2.0
I would go so far as to say this place is a health hazard. There is mold on the ceiling of the bathroom in at least one room (I asked to be moved), the carpets are very old and have stains all over them, and there wasn't even proper flooring in one of the bathrooms of the 3 rooms I saw (it was a piece of rough-cut vinyl thrown on top of an old tile floor). The management is completely absent, and I think it is safe to say they do not care at all about the conditions of this guesthouse. The staff is barley present and my room was not serviced once in my 4 nights there. I have stayed in many similarly priced accommodations throughout Europe and this may be the worst.

The only person I saw was the lady who let me into the building when I first arrived and she was very kind and informative. I saw no one else, no one cleaned my room, made up my bed, replenished tea bags etc. Also the toilet would not flush unless you pushed the lever 3-4 times. Nothing was done, cleaned or replenished and I was there for 3 days. Also, and worse, was the breakfasts. For the first breakfast there was plenty of cereal, choice of bread for toasting, yogurts, tea, milk, juice etc. but as the days moved on, none of those was replenished after people ate them. On my last morning, all there was to eat was old cornflakes (no longer crispy) and a couple of slices of white bread ( with no sign of butter or jam etc), no yogurt, no juice, old milk and the urn for hot water for tea wasn't even switched on. There was no way to figure out how to put it on and the other two guests already in the dining room- 2 gentlemen from Italy- went to boil water in the kettle in their bedroom so we could all have a cup of tea. I definitely would not recommend this place and I even feel there should be compensation for the really bad service.

Do Not Stay Here. Pictures are very Misleading
This is not a place people should even consider. The reception process is poor, the rooms are disgraceful and the hotel has a rancid smell about it. We requested a change of room due to dirty, unsafe furniture and bed as well as rotting window-frame making it a very noisy place. The next room was marginally better but unsurprisingly they allocated the dangerous bed to another couple we spoke to and the bed had collapsed! I would not call this a hotel or guest house, it is more akin to a cheap rundown hostel. Had we not had very busy and tight schedule we would have been in another hotel, the worst £160 we have ever spent. We met other guests who also stated the place was mingin and were going home to shower!! DO not stay here and ignore all the pictures on the websites. If Hotel.com were honourable, they would remove this hotel from their site. A refund would also be a fitting response!
