We love the george!
We loved our stay at The George! We were away for a wedding and the team let us take our key prior to check in and took that bags up to our room so that we could enjoy our day out! Breakfast was great and made fresh to order. The hotel has so much character, felt warm and cosy, we would 100% stay again!

We very much enjoyed our stay at The George Hotel Amesbury. It was nice to stay in a traditional hotel with a history rather than an ultra modern hotel. The staff were very helpful and polite. Everything was very clean. Would highly recommend.

Excellent hotel. Will use again when in area.
Excellent stop over. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only complaint which was no reflection on the actual staff but there seemed a lack of them. They were run ragged trying to deal with an almost full restaurant but otherwise couldn’t fault it. Within walking distance of Stonehenge and the opportunity to view it without having to pay a hefty admission charge. All in all an excellent choice.

The hotel is beautiful and very comfortable. Check in was simple and the lady on the front desk was very welcoming and informative. We had drinks in the bar area, a lovely area to sit and relax. Check out was easy too. I had a small issue at breakfast but it was quickly resolved with no question. I have family in the area and will definitely stay again 😊

6/10 Good

Breakfast poor
Lovely accommodation and room. Surprised the bar closed at 1000am especially with the football being on. Lovely garden area and communal areas. Breakfast was however appalling. My husband and I suffered what can only be described as a touch of food poisoning for a couple of days. The cooked food was inedible. My friend left her’s and after a couple of mouthfuls so did I. My husband ate most of the food on his plate except some burnt bacon and the eggshells in jus scrambled eggs. If we stayed again we would not eat breakfast. It’s the worst breakfast we have ever had.

Stay at Amesbury
A lift would have been helpful although assistance to carry bags to the room was offered. Staff were helpful and friendly, food was excellent and the cooked breakfast superb. Real ale available also a good factor.

2/10 Poor

A disappointing stay
I recently stayed at The George and unfortunately, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were shocked to find our room full of flies, likely because the window had been left open. To make matters worse, the air conditioning was not working, leaving the room uncomfortably warm. When we informed the staff, we were told that no alternative rooms were available, so we had to spend time trying to lure the flies out ourselves—an unpleasant and frustrating start to our stay. The issues didn't end there. My wife sat on a chair in the hotel's restaurant, and to our disbelief, the leg of the chair snapped. Thankfully, she wasn't seriously injured, but it was a second clear sign of poor maintenance. We hoped the food would at least make up for the rocky start, but it took a staggering two hours for our order to arrive after placing it. By the time it did, any anticipation we had for a good meal was long gone. Overall, the combination of an infested room, broken amenities, and appallingly slow service made this stay one of the worst we’ve ever experienced. I would not recommend The George to anyone looking for a pleasant and relaxing stay.

10/10 Exceptional

Our daughter recommended this place and we are glad she did. It is amazing, the room was spotlesly clean and tidy with a generous selction of biscuits, tea, coffee and even bottles water. These were replaced daily. The bathroom was lovely with a nice deep bath with a shower over and once again a good selection of bath and shower gels. The staff here are exceptional, very ploite, cheerful and ever so helpful. We only had the breakfasts here as we were visiting our Daughter, but these too were very good indeed. The cooked breakfast was great and had plenty of flavour and there was a good selection of pastries, fruits, yoghurt and cerials. This is an old coaching inn with plenty of history, so some of the floors are a little uneven and you may find the odd few steps up and down in a corridor, but for us this just added to the charm of the place. Our room overlooked the front of the building onto the small high street, we left out window open overnight and it was generaly ok, traffic seemed to die down around 11pm and start up again around 6.30 to 7am which did not bother us. We will definitely stay here again. Many thanks guys.

Quirky
Good checkin room quirky with a slop. Food excellent. Service was variable as we had to wait to be seated then there were no cups or bowl available so had wait again. Once seated the service was good

Pleasant overall
A decent hotel with a warm feel to it. Staff were pleasant and helpful. One older lady was an aquired taste, blunt and 'it really is too much trouble' attitude. I thought she was being deadpan but found she was genuinely miserable. I dont want the rest of the hotel to be judged by her but they would do well to get rid. Food was excellent, prices reasonable and they catered nicely for the sport with an outside TV in the courtyard. Our room was nicely presented but was a bit dusty on some surfaces. I would stay there again should I ever need to go back to Amesbury
