Nice central hotel. Fabulous staff.
Group of friends on a Christmas shopping trip. Hotel is a lovely old building situated a very short walk from Chester town centre. Our room was spacious for the four of us. And clean and had all the amenities we needed. Only things we noticed is some of the furniture is a little shabby with broken hinges on the wardrobe and a broken drawer in one of the chests. And the cold tap to the bath is not connected also the shower squirts water in 3 directions from the back of the shower head therefore soaking the ceiling and the walls. All can be easily rectified with a little tlc on the room. The bar downstairs though open late didn’t affect our stay as we heard little or no noise from the bar. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of Choice and one of our party who has many food allergies the staff were extremely helpful in varying the breakfast to suit her needs. We also ate there on the Saturday evening and again the food was nice with a good choice on the menu and ample portions at very reasonable cost. The staff were also really cheerful and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. There are plenty of things to do leaflets at the hotel. Parking is a bit of an issue and being an old building there is no lift so therefore the accommodation is not suitable for anyone who struggles with stairs. But other than that and the minor issues with our room it was lovely place with lovely people. Would definitely stay again. Thankyou to the great staff.

Revisiting old haunts
Very disappointed that the web details showed that Evening meals were available even showing the menu, but on arrival informed that they didn't provide that service during weekdays. Further confused as there was a menu on the bar and posted outside. The convenience of not having to go out in the evening was a prime reason for booking! We understand that there has been a change of management and that refurbishment will take place, it certainly needs it. If you are elderly or infirm, climbing the very steep stairs to the top bedrooms will be very difficult if not impossible. Bed small and uncomfortable. Breakfast is fine and the staff member who served us was very pleasant and helpful.

Nice location and room but noisy
It was a nice room and excellent location and would probably be ideal for adults only but we had 2 children with us and the noise from downstairs was too much. In fairness they had rang us in advance to warn us there was an open mic session as it was obviously planned after we had made our booking which was nice but we got the impression it was over by 10.30 and quiet but it was a rock band and the floor was shaking and it lasted until 12.00. Breakfast lovely and staff lovely and as i said great for adults i just wouldn't advise it for families. If we were on our own we would have gone downstairs to join them!

Noisy
The pub is nice, with all old english charm. We stay there for 2 nights; Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August. Both evening there where live music. We were not prepared that the band was heavy metal and we mesure to 110 desibel, it was so loud that we had to go out, could not even be in our room in the 2nd floor. So we recommend the hotel, but be aware of the loud music if you are not fan of heavy metal

Exceptional 10.0
Friendly and value for money
Good location, good service and full English breakfast was good quality. (Pay additional £3 or there is other Cooked options included). Perhaps a bit dated but happy to return if we were visiting Chester and good value for money. Recommend you park in NCP car park and not the shopping centre one as it is a nightmare finding your way out! You get a discount from reception for NCP. Didn't have any problems with noise from the pub, sadly didn't get chance to have a drink there but seemed like a nice stop for a drink.
