We had a very good stay at the Caledonian Hotel. The hotel was very good value, the breakfast was great and the staff friendly and helpful. I did find that we had to wait to get a drink at the bar in the evening on a couple of occasions as there was nobody about. However I accept that we were staying in late November and hotel numbers were probably way down on peak. I think the decor was a bit tired but not a problem. Perhaps could benefit from a lick of paint and some new carpets. I’m just adding this in as a nice to have. Not a requirement! The hotel position is a little way out of Fort William, so is really a drive into town rather than a walk. Well in cold wet weather certainly! I would have walked in summer. The view from the front across the Loch is beautiful. There are tables set out on the grass infront of the hotel for taking your drinks outside which would have been lovely in summer. The main A82 road does pass in front of this and is between the hotel and the Loch, but that’s not really a problem. We didn’t find the road noise a distraction from our room facing the Loch/road. From a position point of view, the hotel is well situated for exploring nearby and also quite far if you want to drive a bit. We went on one day to Skye, on another to Loch Ness and Culloden. Plus you are close to Ben Nevis, so can’t be bad! Overall we had a great stay, with great breakfasts to start our day.
