We arrived via the Zanzibar ferry; it was very hot and we had all our luggage. We had arranged with the hotel directly (in advance) to have a driver there for 15,000. We didn’t see anyone or any signs and waited 20 mins with all bags in the sun; we meaaaged the hotel and they said he was on his way, but we already negotiated our own taxi. When we arrived for check in, we were given a room and brought all our luggage up; the room wasn’t cleaned and no sheets on the bed. We went back down to main desk, given another room. Decent and better, higher floor (8) but can still hear all traffic the entire evening. No hot water was available in the hotel as they said they were having an issue with it (they did send a housekeeping staff up to heat up water in a bucket to use in place of a shower). Not ideal. Dinner (fried rice noodle with chicken) was good food, and breakfast was packed up to go for our 4am departure. It was toast, egg roll, spring roll and a boiled egg. Staff did arrange to have a driver take us to the airport early am due to the prior day inconvenience so that was very lovely and they are very helpful. The room we booked was basic and for a layover before early flight, it did the trick. They will provide ear plugs do to the traffic noise and loud noise from the market across the street. In an area not recommended for late night walkabouts.
