What a wonderful stay we had in Ayr! The hotel is a short walk from the Esplanade and the beach. You will be missing something special if you don't take that walk! The food was delicious and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

My wife and I found our 2-night stay at this hotel rather ho-hum, disappointing in fact. Hotel is mediocre, outdated and in need of repairs and improvements. Our room's heating did not work properly and the door handle broke off when opening the door. Power and USB outlets were missing. Kettle and coffee tray were kept in the wardrobe (LOL) and had to be moved to a table where there was a power outlet. We've seen this at other hotels, but only where space is lacking. There was no need for this it in our room. We had breakfast one morning and the food simply tasted terrible - it could have been prepared better by a child. We didn't go back and went elsewhere for breakfast and dinner, even though we had a pre-paid bed & breakfast rate. The staff are courteous but appear nervous. Perhaps because they are under staffed? Management need to take notice that by comparison with other hotels, they are not on a par with other 3 star hotels. Significant changes are needed to keep travelers coming back. We came here because it was recommended by my parents based on a stay 10 years ago. As one can see online, reviews are now hit and miss, so we hope they listen because it is otherwise a beautiful property and a great location. However, IMO these features alone will not be enough sustain this hotels' business.

Travelling with our son and his wife, our party of four unfortunately found this hotel experience disappointing and sub-par, during our 2 night stay. Based on a very different experience during a 5 star stay here nine years ago, it is quite evident the hotel is no longer being managed as well as it used to. It has become tired /outdated and is in dire need of lacking upkeep, repairs and improved cleanliness. Our bathroom was not properly cleaned and smelled of the stench of urine as soon as we walked in. The bathroom floor and bedside tables were sticky. As 2024 is going down as a 20 record worldwide for travel, there were no other hotels available, so we stayed put. Also there were basic things like broken doorknobs, lacking power /USB outlets, malfunctioning toilet flush, no phone in room and so on (i.e. things normally included in any 3 star hotel are lacking). The staff are very polite but seem anxious as though they are being evaluated - as if required by policy, not really sincere. We are dog owners all our lives and love dogs; but dogs need to be confided to their rooms and common hallways - they should NEVER be allowed into restaurants or lounges where food/ drinks are being served. We are world travelers and this is the majority of hotels' basic policy and there is a reason for it. New management need to open their eyes and make some changes if the they want to stay in business. This is a hotel, but it is being run like a fishing lodge!

Great hotel and friendly staff. Limited menu options for dietary restrictions on dinner menu and not many places around for dining either. Breakfast was great. Would be nice to have comp coffee or tea though.

I was expecting a better room than this for £200! This place was just ok and a good enough place to sleep for night but I would definitely never pay that again to stay there. It was worth £75 at best. There were hairs in the sink and tub and the breakfast was not great. Sorry, i hate to leave a bad review but I wasn't impressed and feel like i wasted money here.

This is a beautiful historic building with nice back garden. Rooms were quite nice. It seems to be more of a place locals go for dinner (which was mediocre). The staff were quite unfriendly and uninterested in chatting or recommending sights to tourists. Also, off the beaten track as far as the city of Ayr is concerned.

Comfortable stay in charming historic manor
Comfortable stay in historic manor with charm. Room was large, but interior was dated. Our room had lovely garden view and play structure in walled garden for kiddos. Staff was very friendly. Hot breakfast was served in lobby and included options like full Scottish breakfast, eggs Benedict, French toast, etc. Note, there were no elevators and rooms are 1-2 floors up so you must carry your luggage upstairs.

The free parking and included breakfast were good selling points. The building and gardens looked grand and were full of history. Inside is very clean and the staff were lovely and very polite. The room we stayed in felt a little cramped but was fine for the 1 night. The en-suite bathroom was surprisingly spacious though. The bed was soft and comfortable. The room didn’t include air con though but had a few windows to open. Some of the fixtures and fittings looked a bit rundown. If these were changed I think it would make a big difference for not that much money.

Great location, no lift and a tight winding staircase makes it tough to get bags upnto rooms. No AC, small room, shower was either scalding hot or ice cold and kept switching during the shower.
