A generally comfortable stay - could be better!
Unfamiliar with the hotel, it was not at first sight obvious where Reception was located (there was a sign on a pillar which I noticed only later during my stay). Staff were friendly and efficient: my comments about the problems experienced booking a table in the Aria restaurant by email elicited a compensatory free drink in the bar which was quite unexpected and appreciated. The one evening meal taken in the restaurant (a Friday) was tasty and good quality but my main course and dessert servings were very small to the point of meanness. It was noticeable how empty the restaurant was on that evening ( I and some friends were there from 19:00 until 23:00). A room on the 14th floor should have ensured peace and quiet but the almost floor to ceiling windows did not block out the raised voices of noisy people leaving pubs and restaurants down below in the Gas Street basin area. The bed was a good size and comfortable with good facilities in the room and in the hotel generally although the room air conditioning was noisy so was switched off at night and could not be set to a lower temperature than was displayed. Room lighting levels was typical of many hotels these days and could be brighter. Very convenient for local attractions such as Sea Life Centre, Birmingham Library (2nd biggest in Europe), Museum and Art Gallery: slightly less so for ThinkTank and Jewellery Quarter.

Hotel was great as expected. The major building works around however didn’t enhance the experience - not the hotels fault.
