Started out great, then fell apart quickly
I was upgraded to a nice room as the hotel was not so booked. I had to extend my stay and booked it in person. They downgraded me to an ancient room and didn't even ask me or tell me about it. Worse, it was completely inconvenient to get into and out of. Massive construction going on making it a disaster to get in and out of. Not sure if I'd ever stay here again as a result. Clearly an incredible hotel century ago, but functionally dysfunctional now. They made the mistake with me of giving me a crap room after clearly booking a Tier 1 room. Stupid management or employee decision as a result.

This is VIP property but the reception has no idea what is VIP membership- they are surprised I ask for free room upgrade. Same frustration with reception on my check out : As a VIP gold member you get 20% discount on food & beverage, but I am being told “No”. The hotel is nice historic property in best Sofia location. The reception staff should attend a training about VIP members treatment.

Really friendly and helpful front desk. Shout out to Konstantinos and Anastasia who were really helpful on check in day. Overall ratings low as the hotel is dated and service not consistent. We had friends who stayed in the same hotel and didn't get their room cleaned at all despite requests being made. Not expected for a 5-star hotel. Value for money not quite there. The friendly and helpful front office staff salvaged the situation. I wouldn't choose this hotel again.

First room sink didn’t drain. Second room smelled like cigars and unclear if ac worked. Third room above pounding wedding music in hotel until one am, bed was shaking. This was supposedly upgrade. This night should have been refunded but they gave me a bottle of wine that I didn’t want. Sheets all had dirty marks on them, hair in bathroom. Lovely property needs maintenance and better management
