The Drake Hotel Plymouth

The Drake Hotel Plymouth

8/10 Good
"Everything about the hotel and staff was perfect. The only thing that we had issue with was the parking arrangements. Our Expedia booking included free parking, but apparently parking is only guaranteed when booking directly with the hotel. Expedia were not transparent about this. Hence, on the first night, we had to park on the street and pay £14.40 for five hours...waiting for an allocated hotel parking space on a first-come, first-served basis to become available."

"Absolutely fine. Close to centre and walking distance from Home Park. A bit faded decor and no air con in the room but fans provided. Decent breakfast. Parking was a bit of a nightmare as on the day of my arrival the doors to the underground car park had broken and I had to route via Sainsbury's car park risking a fine but thankfully the hotel staff managed to override the parking database and it appeared to have worked. Generally all was good and I would recommend and use again."

"This is a great little hotel despite it being very old and in need of some repair in places. The staff were great and couldn't do enough for you. The room was small but clean and had everything we need in it. The shower looked old but was very powerful and easy to use. Breakfast was very nice and there were plenty of options. It was a great location for us as we got to explore the Hoe in the afternoon and then it was a short walk to the theatre in the evening. This is a great place to stay if you don't mind something that isn't quite perfect but is friendly, helpful and clean. We will return again on our next visit to the theatre,"

"The location was very good. Easy walk to Barbican. The park was right up the street. The room could have been cleaner. The air vents were full of dust. When we brought this to the staffs attention they immediately cleaned it. The carpet could have used a good cleaning. The restaurant was lovely. The view was spectacular and the food was very good. 4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Plymouth

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Plymouth is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. To fully appreciate the city's rich history and culture, it's recommended to stay for at least 2 to 3 days. This budget-friendly duration allows you to explore key landmarks such as the stunning cathedral, historical monuments, and the picturesque marina. You might also enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the local boating scene and the natural beauty of nearby forests, making it a great value for money trip for anyone keen on history and culture.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Plymouth, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. By enabling email alerts or push notifications, you could stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, ensuring you don’t miss potential savings. Additionally, the Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window feature on the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so you're more likely to see the best options. With these tools, you'll be well-equipped to plan your spontaneous getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates may help you find a more affordable stay in a Plymouth hotel. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If it happens to be on the higher side, we can suggest alternative dates that might offer a more cost-effective option.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre generally tend to be more expensive; however, with Plymouth’s excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
