Lovely room. Beautiful evening meals. Helped us out when we mis-laid our keys. Pool was very chilly but refreshing in the heat. We weren’t told that restaurant was closed one evening , and they forgot our take away breakfast one day, but quickly scrambled one together. A lovely place

Great location, hard beds, rough staff -notAnthony
Great location for access to Etna and wineries. Perhaps the best feature of the resort was Anthony, the desk clerk. Anthony at reception was wonderful - kind, helpful, smile on his face, and smart. Unfortunately, Sara was troublesome and made comments about our stay, that we were in two beds instead of one, even though we booked the entire room - weird. Hotel needs new beds - beds were rock-hard and furniture was tattered. We needed to put blankets underneath sheets in order to soften the beds a bit. Pool water was not clear. Food in on-location restaurant was really quite awful, but there are limited options surrounding the place. Yay to Anthony - you made the stay great.

Mixed Feelings!
Mixed experiences at Il Borgo - it's very reasonably priced, the pool is great, and the location is perfect (provided you have a car). However - we were really disappointed that the hotel charged us for an extra night when we had to leave the hotel a day early due to our flight time changing. Even though we had given 5 days notice, they felt unable to waive the last night, which resulted in us paying for two hotels on the same night due to a change by Ryanair. Also be warned, if you want wrinkle free clothing, bring your own iron! They share an iron with several other properties - it took 3 days to get one! Try also to get a room in the main house - the pictures don't seem to show the wing where most of the rooms are location. It literally hasn't been updated in 15 years or so - the carpets, curtains and bed sheets were the same in 2006/2007!!

Great setting, good value, good pool.
Il Borgo is set in beautiful surroundings, close to Alcantara Gorge, Taormina, Etna and 90 minutes from Siracusa. It has a beautiful pool and great food in the evenings. There's also a great beach in nearby Calatabiano called San Marco. However, the basics are sometimes lacking - it took 3 days to get an iron, the room furnishings are faded and scuffed, parking spaces for only about 8 cars so you may have to park outside on the road. Sometimes it feels as though some of the staff are dismissive of requests, but others are very helpful (Sara was great). Overall, it is good value for money and I would recommend to stay here, but with the knowledge that it is not perfect.

Not luxury but set in a beautiful location
The scenery surrounding Il Borgo is perfect and the resort it’s self is picturesque. The rooms are okay but a little dated and could do with a refurb. Pool is clean and well looked after. Downside is your isolated and the restaurant delivers too much fancy food when I was looking for somethng traditional & Italian. I had a car so me and the family explored some local restaurants that gave value for money traditional food. It’s just not luxury and the food and drink is over priced. The Gorge is close by and very disappointing but not as much as paying €60 each to go up to Mt Etna for 2 hours at 3000m.

4/10 Fair

Glad we only stayed for one night.
My husband and I were incredibly disappointed by our stay here. The marketing of the villa is well done and the photos look great -- to be fair, the main villa and surrounding grounds truly are lovely. Unfortunately, where this villa falls short is in its customer service and room comfort. My husband and I were only staying for a single night as we had booked an excursion in the area for the following day; we we asked if we could enjoy the pool for 30-45 mins after check-out time before we headed off for our excursion we were told "No." Not a big deal, but I have never had anything like that happen to me before (and the hotel was not full at all). The rooms are very dated in style but the truly unbearable part of the rooms are the beds -- old mattresses where you can literally feel the coils pressing through. We asked to see if the bed situation was better in a different bedroom (I am pregnant) but it was the same. Needless to say, my husband (who can sleep almost anywhere) and I did not get much sleep that night at all. Breakfast was mediocre -- nothing special but fine. The staff is also very pushy about having guests eat at the villa's restaurant. The menu options are limited and quite pricey for the area, so it was not surprising that the restaurant was almost empty on the night we arrived. For what it is, I would not recommend this villa and we certainly will not be returning.

Rustic boutique experience
Think an old farmhouse located in the middle of a remote valley off a little country road, with grounds which go down to encompass the same river as at the famous Alcantara Gorge. Located in Castiglione di Sicilia 'district', not the town itself - which is actually some 10km away. A good base, but you have to have a car. Easy to find if you use Google Maps or Waze (it's on there) to navigate. Rough parking on site for around 8 cars, but the road in front is quite wide and you can park there too. We had a suite room (2 rooms with 2 single beds and a large double bed), with two air-conditioning units which made it very comfortable. True that mattresses on all beds are very hard, but we did not mind. No working Wifi a negative, but 3G and 4G reception quite decent, so if you have data roaming not a big deal. Breakfast is continental, but with a large additional selection of cold 'pies' and a wide variety of cakes - we were impressed with it actually. Restaurant open in the evening for 2 hours, but you have to book in advance. Menu just 2 choices per course, but you get to see it first thing in the morning. Otherwise you can drive to various other restaurants within a few km, or else go all the way to Giardini Naxos which has a very wide choice. Nice little pool with deckchairs - could do with a few more parasols as there is no shade anywhere otherwise. Conclusion; rustic, a bit rough around the edges, but we really enjoyed our stay, and would happily stay again

Worth staying
The google map location for property is incorrect!!! Add the stay to your colander and the correct location in about 10 west. Good pool, staff very accommodating. Wifi was in public area, dinner was excellent on nights they are open.

Shabby rooms and rock hard beds.
Great location, pretty and traditional to look at. Pool area was OK with really good views of the rural area. Some reception staff were not very friendly. Rooms - especially in the annex were in poor condition with ancient rock hard mattresses plus the bathroom was very shabby. We got moved into room in the main building which was much better. Food in the restaurant (fillet) was dry and tasteless with ill matching garnish. Found local restaurant called Paradise, and it was superb and only 5 minutes drive.

Good, useful base to explore
Incredibly difficult to find! Using Castaglione in the address is misleading, mitogio is nearer! Nice, clean, spacious accommodation. Pool area has little natural shade and when it's windy you can't use the sun umbrellas. In 40 degree heat, you need shade! Pool area needs some work doing to repair it and the paved area which is suffering some subsidence. Staff very friendly. Wifi only available in public areas, and sometimes difficult to connect! Restaurant is disappointing, menu limited, especially if you don't eat cheese! and breakfast was more like a lunchtime spread! Lots to choose from, I will admit, but so much was picnic food! Air con worked in the room very well and patio area was good, but it would be better with some chairs to sit on! We had a lot of noise from the next room, sounded like teenagers larking around, unsupervised! Easy to reach Taormina and gol Alcantera. Other bars and restaurants in the area to choose from, too!

Luxury hotel, beautiful surroundings
Lovely hotel in a beautiful place. Aprox 1h from Catania airport and to Etna. We stayed in studio apartment which had two rooms and a bathroom with WC. Our apartment was light and spacious with beautiful views. Rooms were cleaned and tidied every day. As we arrived we've been offered a double room which was very dark due to the tree right in the only window in the room. We asked for a different room and we were offered the studio. Staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was very specific (not continental) like cold egg dishes with lots of roast vegetables and herbs.

Lovely relaxed hotel in quiet rural location.
We really enjoyed this holiday in this location as it was very quiet and relaxed. We will visit again and will request rooms with a view as the annex building either overlooks the drive into hotel or the mountain view with a small balcony which is much better.Staff were fantastic and friendly and always had time to chat, even the locals gave us fresh picked lemons and oranges when we went for a walk. There is not much to do as it is rural, we were there for a chill out ,a few walks...but beware no paths....you can catch a bus to Toarmina and connections out of there but service is limited 1 bus every 2 hours. We ate in hotel mostly which was also relaxed and pleasant..meals were always tasty and well presented.,and chef does a wonderful tuna sauce!,there are no other resturants within a walking distance Ideally you need a car to see around Sicilly, but we were happy. The pool are is on a sunny terrace and is very clean and well kept with lovely views,we went just out of their season,so swimming was out . They say not a lot of english visit but we managed to commuicate well even with the locals, none of us spoke italian.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, excellent location
The hotel is a little difficult to find ( a satnav is useful). Whilst there you really need a car to enjoy the superb attractions in the vicinity (Mount Etna was our highlight); as there are many but there isn't the option of using public transport. The hotel itself is lovely with stunning views and very friendly staff. (The only gripe was that the bath plug was the wrong size)... Its the second time my wife and I have been to this hotel, which is unusual for us) and we have really enjoyed both visits.

Beautiful Country Getaway
Had a really enjoyable stay here, first day here was spent by the swimming pool where we were pretty much alone the entire time which was lovely. The pool is beautiful with a nice view of the old farmhouse building and the surrounding mountains. Staff are friendly and the dinners are nice. Only bad points were: very hard to find initially as the signs are few and unclear, staff aren't hugely helpful, we were staying in the new building and not the old one which was very basic, the breakfasts here are very strange! The breakfast basically consists of all the previous night's leftovers in little dishes, along with about 5 different cakes! Overall, a great place to stay for both relaxing and exploring Mount Etna and surrounding sights/towns.

Beautiful setting but let down by a few things
The hotel is in a stunning location, the building is beautiful with great character and the pool area clean and relaxing, however it is not a very large pool so is soon full up with a couple of splashy kids. We were in the new building next to the hotel which was clean and spacious although the shower head fell off and also the push button flush surround, we seemed to have a disabled room but this meant we had a huge shower/wet room area, the air conditioning was very welcome although a bit noisy and the bed ( twin beds pushed together for a double) was pretty hard. We would have liked to have stayed in the old part of the hotel that is shown in the pictures. The dining room was nice with attentive waiters but the menu was limited and a little expensive, we paid 10 euros for a plate of pasta and pesto, a nice touch was to receive small free starters at dinner and we were given a bowl of peanuts with our drinks by the pool.. At breakfast you could clearly see the leftovers from the dinner menu the night before. The main problem we had was that the fridge wasn't working from when we arrived, as it as so hot it would have been really good to chill our wine, beer, water and picnic items, we asked 3 times and were told on the last time that they would have to get a new part for it, when we mentioned it again as we were leaving they just laughed. Overall we did consider it good value for money but it's a real shame these few things let it down.

Rustic Charm
With distant sea view and nestled in a valley of dramatic mountains this rustic hotel with pool can only please. With an easily justified 3 star rating you could think (superficially) that it were a higher rated hotel. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly and evening meals very well prepared. Local wine is nice too. Not too expensive either. You will need a car though and if you are of a nervous disposition prepare yourself for some alternative driving styles. The Hotel is difficult to find. Other than the Hotel's bar and restaurant there are none within walking distance. You can drive to Giardino naxos and Taormina in 20min and 40min both lovely places to visit. Il Borgo is very peaceful and not really a children's destination. Great for couples getting away from 'it'. Try to book a room in the original building as a tad more prestigious and comfortable. This being said beds are firm. Visit the gourge nearby "wow". Go up Enta "wow". Taomina "wow" and much more besides. This area is dramatic, awe inspiring, quite breath taking. Hotels are a plenty in Sicily so if you want to see more of the island I would advise swapping hotels as you go.
