Hotel du Vin is very well located with shops and restaurants close by. We booked a double deluxe room for a short city break and we were disappointed with the accommodation. Check in was easy but the room wasn’t what I expected at the price we paid. The bathroom was bigger than the bedroom and while it looked impressive, the toilet was difficult to flush, the taps on the sink squeaked and it took at least 5 minutes of running the hot tap to get lukewarm water out. The shower is a rain shower so it was difficult to not get drenched by cold water as you waited for the water to heat up so I had the pleasure of a 5 minute cold shower. The room itself was small for a deluxe - you couldn’t walk by the bed if the wardrobe was open. There was a building site opposite our room so you can imagine how early we were woken up by the noise through single glazed windows. We could also hear every single bit of noise from the hotel and something in the room shook every time someone closed a door near our room. We didn’t really sleep well for the stay as a result. We’re not fussy people but were left disappointed and tired after our stay here and we would have gotten a better nights sleep at the Premier Inn across the square. This is my first experience of a Hotel Du Vin so I’m not sure if this hotel is representative of the chain but I’m not sure I would stay at another Du Vin hotel.

Great Location lovely decor needs a deep clean
The location is in a particularly lovely part of Birmingham, as stated on their website you can park in Snow Hill Car Park a 2-3mins walk away but its slightly more expensive than its states on their website at £12 for 24hrs. Check in wasn't the quickest as there was only one person on the desk and a bit of a queue had formed, the lobby area was lovely though, the decor is quite nice. It's very strange layout in that there are no room numbers only names so finding your room is a bit of a maze. However the room is nicely decorated and presented and the room itself was clean with a very comfortable large bed (great nights sleep) it came with all the extras you'd expect from a more upper star hotel such as fluffy robes and slippers, nice toiletries, a nessproso machine in the room. Also on check in as I mentioned it was our birthday when I booked we had a nice note and plate of chocolate truffles greeting us in the room. However and this is my only main critic that while the bathroom was lovely with rainfall shower and large tub - it was a bit on the grimy side and didnt feel it was as clean as it should have been. The grout and silicon round the tub was grey/black and lots of soap scum on the tiles and generally dusty on surfaces. It was sort of surface cleaned but really needs a good deep clean. Our room Talbot Port was also directly above the bar area which was quite noisy quite late so if your a light sleeper request a quieter room.

Disappointing stay but comfy bed.
A celebratory weekend away at what has always been a good hotel so expectations high. The check in was sloppy, as our room was not available we had a drink in the bar whilst waiting. When we went to complete check in we were just given our room key, no welcome or details of the hotel etc. We even had to ask what the breakfast setup was as this was included in the room rate. On to the room, pleasantly surprised with the space and large bathroom. Then the lack of cleanliness became apparent, hairs in bathtub, rubbish still in bin and the tired & dark decor. We were going out so told reception of the issues, we were assured the room would be inspected and ready for our return. On returning, we needed to turn ourselves around to make our evening show so a quick bath / shower only to then find one towel in the room. No, the extra towels were not hiding in the wardrobe or on a shelf in the bathroom. So yet another call to reception, clearly the hotel needs to concentrate on the basics. A decent sleep in the comfy bed at least. Breakfast was ok, nothing special and if you have the choice, ditch the hotel breakfast and opt for one of the cafes / bars in the area. We were given a voucher for a bottle of champagne to compensate for the troubles but on trying to claim to take home with us they had none! Seemed a little odd, so will try again when back in Birmingham.

Close to the Bullring shopping center
The hotel is a 10 minute walking distance from the Bullring shopping centre. It's a great looking hotel, but dark and moody, my room was chilly in early March, the lighting in my room I thought was too dim and although the water pressure was really good, the shower was luke warm which filled the bath so you were ankle deep in water by the time you were finished. There are about 4 steps up to the hotel and another two inside to get to the reception with no one on hand to help with your luggage. A lady on the street came over to offer me help with my suitcase as I struggled with the door and the steps after I checked out and leaving the hotel. When I arrived the lady on reception was very friendly, I was early and my room wasn't ready which was fine, so they kept my bag. The bar had a nice atmosphere in the evening. Breakfast was lovely, I had the eggs benedict with salmon it was well cooked and the service was good. My overnight stay wasn't terrible but not great, however, the shower and room temperature plus the lighting in my bedroom let it down for me. I work in travel and stay in a lot of hotels. Personally I will not be staying at this hotel again. It's was £32 and 30 minutes in a taxi from the airport but you could get the train to Birmingham New Street, this hotel 10/15 minute walking distance or take a taxi.

Hotel Du Vin Birmingham
My wife treated me to a one night stay for my Birthday. The check in was great, quick, friendly and efficient. The overall service at the hotel was excellent, we were met by friendly and efficient staff. We drank in the hotel bar in the basement, which had a very good selection of beers and a great lunch offer of 2 burgers for £15, normally £15.50 each so great value. The breakfast was excellent, table service and the food was fresh and of very good quality. The hotel is in a great area and close to many great places to eat and drink and also the shopping and all the entertainment venues Birmingham has to offer. The only downside was the room, which had a very tired look. The room was dominated by a large dark wardrobe with a large TV next to it, which seemed to be an after thought as it blocked out the mirror that was behind it. The bed was fairly comfortable but no controlled air conditioning that we could see so the room was hot during the night and as a result we didn't sleep that well. The tired look continued into the bathroom, which definitely needs an update. The toilet is positioned so that you can't sit properly on it as there is no room to put your legs so you have to sit at an angle so quite bizarre. The monsoon shower over the bath however was a nice touch. I would definitely visit the hotel again but probably only for a drink unless they upgrade the rooms.
