I booked a room in this hotel after reading the many 10/10 reviews and looking at the photos of the rooms. I now question the authenticity of those reviews. First of all this hotel is more a private house BnB than a hotel. It is situated not far from the city centre but the area is really rather shabby. There is renovation work going on so I couldn't find the front door at first. Not a big issue but irritating. I booked a single room, paying over £55 for a shoebox! Size probably 8'x6'. Yes there was a single bed, desk, chair and tiny wardrobe but they filled my tiny room. The ensuite was nearly as big as my room. On the plus side, it looked clean enough. Towels were provided but they were also small and quite thin. The bed was ok but needed a new mattress. The room was quite warm even with the radiator off, luckily there was a bit of a draught from the window which helped. Breakfast times were rather early, from 07.00-08.30 in a very plain dining room with noise from the kitchen. There was some fruit, yogurts and wrapped pain de chocolat though not freshly baked. Reasonable choice of hot food though no proper bacon or sausages. I had an omelette which was freshly cooked which was lacking in seasoning but adequate. When i looked at other budget hotels in the area, i was very disappointed that i booked the Gateway. This tiny room was completely overpriced at £55. The local lbis was £41 for a decent sized room. So i recommend reducing single room prices.
