Do not book! The pictures shown of the room must be the 1 and only nice room. The room I recieved was very different than pictured, dirty, smelled like pot and meth because there are literally drug users 24/7 outside the front of the hotel smoking and fighting. Even inside the hotel, I had a girl camp in the hollway and block my door. I will post pics of the actual room and the users outside my window if i can. Big sign behind counter as you check in says no refunds at any time. I visited all over san francisco. This is definately the worst neighborhood i encountered. Police station not more than a block away, but they didnt do anything. Staff was friendly, probably the best part of that hotel. Needs to be gutted and renovated. Missing fire alarms, wires hanging out of the wall. Looks like there was a fire in my room at some point. No attempt to even clean it up or paint over it. Just left it. The bed sheets seemed clean. I quadruple checked for bed bugs. Highly recommend to stay anywhere else. You will thank me later.

10/10 Exceptional

I was very surprised by the price of the Bay Hotel because of the location and the easy access to restaurants and transportation to the whole San Francisco area. Unfortunately, the entrance of the hotel is completely surrounded by the local homeless and a drug users crowd that interacts in the 16th BART station. Fortunately there are a daily police scheduled 24hs to make you feel secure. The hotel is very clean and the staff is cordial and extremely friend. Oli and her husband are excellent on sharing all information and making your stay a really pleasurable. The room are clean up on a daily business and a set of towels are provided as well. I was quite impressed of how they keep every floor clean and coffee are provided daily and a microwave is available to all on the reception. The bedrooms are small but clean with a brand new TV provided with cable and good WiFi! The bathrooms are shared but it’s again impressive CLEAN! I really would like to emphasize that they rooms are pretty quite during the evening s. My husband and I plan on return to San Francisco more often and we plan on staying o this hotel again because we loved the easy access to transportation and walk distance to restaurants, bars, pizza, you name it!

For the area, the room was nice and clean but outside the property is the Tenderloin district.

The room was impeccably clean. The family that runs the establishment was polite and welcoming. In the middle of the blight that is the tenderloin in San Francisco this is truly an oasis that I look forward to being their guest again in the near future

The bed was okay, the room was clean and secure. The front desk guy was so nice and helpful. Do not expect any extra amenities and the bathroom is shared. It’s like a well kept hostel with private rooms. Oh there was cereal and toast and coffee in the morning so that was neat.

Staff was the best and only part that I can say I enjoyed but to be fair I guess I set the wrong expectation, if your cool with Hostel like set ups then its not that bad but that was a first and last for me.

You share a Restroom with other guest and there is no air-conditioned. Sleeping with the window open hlps cool the room but you also get all the loud noise from outside of cars passing by and people screaming on the road all night long making it hard to sleep. The staff was really friendly though.

Advert advertised breakfast included in the price, when I arrived for breakfast staff announce that they have not provided breakfast since the beggining of the COVID pandemic, therefore admitting that they have been false advertising for over 5 years. Advertised that there would be a microwave in the room, there wasn't. The fire detector had been ripped out in the room as well. Room was generally clean, there was a little stains on the towels, otherwise the room was clean. There was damage to the sink in the room so needed to be careful not to cut self when using. The room did not have any aircon so did get humid in the room. Staff were polite and accommodating in general. The biggest issue with this property is on the outside. The street seems to be a popular congregating place for the use of drugs. Upon arrival there must have been 20 people on the street doing drugs, their behaviour was erratic and on occasions violent. I did not feel safe going outside and I was apprehensive about them coming in as there were a couple occasions where someone would bang on the window/door. Ultimately I would not stay here again, having explored the city a bit I would recommend a place down near the piers felt much safer around here.

I stayed here for Folsom Weekend. I made it to the hotel around 6:30pm & my room still wasn’t ready. There was no nearby parking & the entrance was blocked by homeless people. The pros of this hotel: close to public transportation, lots of things in walking distance & if you’re in town for Folsom Street fair it’s walking distance. I go to 24hr Fitness & there was a gym within walking distance. Cons: No guests, I was not informed of this “rule” until the 2nd day of my stay. Again, I was in for FSF weekend so this added a damper. Homeless people, the perimeter of the hotel is blocked by homeless people which is intimidating & made me feel unsafe at times. Shared bathroom, the bathroom at the end of the hall of the 3rd floor was terrible. The outlets didn’t work, the toilet is extremely close to the shower & there was no one to but my toiletries. Can clearly hear neighbors, the way my window was positioned I was about to hear my neighbors conversations as clear as if they were speaking directly to me. Dirty towels, my towels were dirty & had black spots No ac No extra lock, there’s no extra lock attachment No parking No rack to hang towels, they provide a sink in the room but there’s nowhere to hang towels or clothes No one replaced my trash during my 4 day stay

In contrary to expectations, UN plaza is definetely not the area you want to be in San Francisco. (Maybe inform yourself about „tenderloin“ in SF) Dirty, dangerous and pee smell everywhere. Not to forget about the illicit substances and people in sleeping bags and shopping bags atop their heads infront of the hotel. Ubering home in the night to avoid the criminalism. Definetely not recommended to single woman. The shared bathrooms look like a spring break party every day. The towels although were clean were dirty looking. 3 hours of sleep because of constant noise of other guests or door shutting several times a night. Not even the price was so low that it can justify this badly experience. But the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Terrible stay

This hotel is in an area known as ‘the pit’ where homeless-ness and crime is high(we were warned by the customs officer not to walk the streets after 8pm, not to walk near crowds and advised take Ubers door to door). With nowhere else to stay we checked in, side- stepping homeless on our way in. The reception manager was very welcoming and friendly and tried to assure us there was nothing to worry about. The rooms were basic (as expected) but they were grubby and furniture & walls damaged. Before we had even got our bearing the manager bought us a change of bedding and offered to have our room cleaned, without prompting! We went out and a homeless person barged their way in on our return. That night we didn’t get any sleep due to the very loud people staying - TVs blaring, shouting and not pleasant language (it sounded like homeless had been allowed in to stay). A fight broke out in one room, furniture smashed and the police called (we heard the conversations through the walls). We genuinely feared for our safety. Next morning there was no sign of the reception manager, no breakfast or even drinks (no kettle in the rooms only a microwave and fridge). So we booked another hotel and checked out, with no refund and my message to hotels.com has been ignored. I do not recommend this hotel - I was skeptical of some of the reviews but all the negative comments are true. I will not be booking this hotel again.

The property was great for the price. I was in close proximity to the conference center and I had a fridge and microwave in my room. The staff were kind and provided me even with an additional blanket because we were there during winter. However, there are some things outside of the direct control of the property that must be considered. The surrounding areas made it difficult to walk to any nearby locations. I did not feel safe waking anywhere near the hotel so I Ubered to and from the location. There are a few items that could be added to the property that would increase a lot of my ratings. The ability to have heating in the room that we can control, additional blankets, cleaner showers (some smelled of urine), and a more improved continental breakfast. The breakfast for example had milk jugs and orange juice containers that looked like they were pulled from a shared family fridge. Nothing looked fresh and there was always limited supply of items. In summary, I would still probably stay again because of the price and the close proximity to many big things in the city. Knowing what I know now, I would bring my own items to make myself feel more comfortable but the breakfast could defintley be kicked up a notch since it’s offered as a benefit of choosing this hotel.

The staff was friendly and helpful. He gave us great us suggestions of places near by to visit and eat. The continental breakfast was good it included several drink choices( coffee, milk, orange, cranberry and lemonade juice) and cereal or toast. They also provided a once use toothbrush and toothpaste. There's are homeless around that area and can be noisy.

Basic hotel, better than expected, close to RSAC

I booked the Hotel for 4 days while RSAC 2024. I was a bit worried due to some reviews, but it turned out to be okay and I am considering to stay there next year again (if the rates are ok). I stayed at other SF hotels while the conference and they turned out to be way worse. I booked a room with an own bathroom. Compared to other hotels it was fairly cheap (~62$/d incl. taxes). It had the basic things like microwave, fridge and TV (all of which I did not use). It was mostly clean but the blankets reminded me of a hostel. While the room had windows, there is no real view as it points towards concrete walls (but you still get some air). The hosts were extremely friendly. The only surprising thing was the 20$ cash deposit at check-in, that I had to remember ask for at check-out. There is some breakfast, but I never tried it. I read on the website somewhere that the hotel doors close at midnight. This worried me a little bit as I expected to return from the RSAC parties later than that. Turned out that you can open the front door 24/7 with your RFID room key. The location to the hotel is a 5-10 minute walk away from the Moscone center and even closer to the BART station. There are a few stores for groceries in walking distance. The hotel is located in the „transgender district“ of SF, which had lots of homeless-ness and open drug use on the streets. I did not felt too unsafe and other, more expensive hotels have the same issue. It’s not something the hotel can influence.
