A great place from which to explore the Isle of Wight, not as 'typical British seaside' as neighbouring Sandown, but all the better for that! The Old Village and the Chine in particular are beautiful, and a good range of places to eat and drink.

Old shanklin was very nice, with some lovely pubs and tea room, and a wonderful rock and fudge shop. However the actual main shopping town was very run down which is a shame there were very few shops that had a seaside wow factor!

Excellent
Heaps of really good dining options - having the Hire car was handy but appeared to be a good public transport system - heaps to see and do - Ferry service via Wightlink was very efficient

We were a bit too early in the season, so some places were closed. Recommend Pavarottis, excellent Italian restaurant. Had fun playing the crazy golf on the seafront.

Great place and excellent food, but shame about businesses closing, like most places these days.

We didn't see much as we only stayed for one night before moving on and it was raining but I am sure it would be really nice in the sun. There is a lift down to the beach or a short walk way. Lots of cafes and restaurants around too.

Everyone was friendly and helpful including the bus drivers and the sunbed lady on the beach. Generally a good vibe in Shanklin.
"This charming boutique hotel exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the service stood out—especially the kind receptionist who helped with my luggage after a long journey.
The hotel feels like a hidden gem, with its cozy, elegant décor, velvet sofas, and soft music creating a peaceful atmosphere. The garden is beautifully kept, featuring loungers and a partial sea view, while the pool, jacuzzi, and sauna were perfect for relaxing.
One small downside: a few guests took towels and blankets, which was disheartening, especially for a family-run place that puts so much care into every detail.
Breakfast was a highlight. As someone who’s gluten- and lactose-free, I was impressed by how easily and kindly the staff accommodated me—and the food was delicious.
My room was spotless, the shower worked perfectly, and I appreciated the personal touch of the animal-loving owners.
I’d absolutely return. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a welcoming retreat with heart"
"Staff were amazing and attentive. Had food from in the bar and breakfast both very good. Requested connecting room and that’s what we got. Rooms on the small side and compact but everything you need except no fridge. Great location. "
"Convenient, quiet location for a pre-cruise overnight stay. Transportation was readily avaliable and the front desk staff were very helpful to arrange. Had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast was included in my room selection and it was delicious and plentiful. You cannot go wrong by including it. We enjoyed our stay in Portsmouth!"
"Overnight for sons graduation. Reception allowed us to leave car at hotel. Very much appreciated. We were given room upgrade unexpectedly but lovely."
