    Very good 8.0
    A birthday treat
My overall assessment is satisfactory. My main complaint was after booking for five nights, I was moved to another room after three nights. The hotel claimed it was the agent’s fault for not speaking to the hotel. The strange thing was that I was given a room I rejected when I first booked. Although the view of the castle in the new room was better, the room was too dark and the decor Unprepossessing. The bath was to high and too big. I was impressed with my first room and the quality of the amenities. Servicing of both rooms was good and staff helpful. Staff overall were friendly though promises and requests were not always fulfilled. The restaurant (Grazing) need to be more aware of people dining on their own especially if they are not too busy. Afternoon tea at Peacock Alley was delightful mainly because of the helpfulness of staff. The menu was adequate and the surroundings satisfactory. The write up of this is exaggerated. St.John’s church warrants a visit. The stained glass and the ceiling are exquisite. Follow through to Princess gardens for continued calm and relaxation. Though the frequent sounds of sirens often punctuate the calm. I found Princess Street disappointing having visited it years ago. It is populated with ordinary shops like any other high street. Travel further on to St Andrew’s square for lunch at Harvey Nichols. Charming service, good food and a pleasant view especially if the weather is good.
