6/10 Good

“Executive” should have been the standard classic
I booked a classic king room as it seemed from a glance that the only difference was that the “executive” rooms gave you access to the lounge and were on higher floors (my own fault for not comparing the details more vigorously). I didn’t need free snacks/drinks and the hotel isn’t high enough for views so I booked a classic room. What I didn’t see was that the classic rooms don’t come with dressing gowns or a coffee machine which, for a 4 star hotel, you’d expect to come as standard! Rooms were fine, the king bed felt old and the mattress was a bit saggy. Not many amenities in the bathroom (standard shampoo, body wash and lotion, but no cotton pads or conditioner for example) and didn’t feel up to the reviews they have had in travel mags. Instead of marketing the rooms you’d expect as standard to be “executive”, it might have felt more palatable to have the “classic” rooms marketed as a slightly cheaper no frills version perhaps. It felt like a budget room, albeit recently decorated and was a decent size.

Brilliant staff & beautiful hotel.
Our stay at The Alex was nothing short of superb. From the comfort of the rooms, to the amazing facilities and brilliant location everything was just perfect for our stay in Dublin. The finest part of it all though was the brilliant staff, who welcomed us warmly and went over and above accommodating our every need and more! They are a credit to the establishment! We will be back.
