Top neighbourhoods in Washington

Dupont Circle

Dupont Circle delights with its perfect mix of history and lively energy. Elegant mansions and embassies line tree-canopied streets, while the central fountain provides a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The Phillips Collection showcases intimate art galleries, and independent bookshops offer literary escapes. Cultural explorers can wander Embassy Row or relax in the neighborhood's welcoming cafés. International cuisines reflect the diplomatic community, from upscale bistros to cosy wine bars. The neighborhood's walkability and Dupont Circle Metro station make exploring Washington DC effortless. Historic boutique hotels and converted mansions provide charming places to stay with architectural character and personalised service.

Georgetown

Georgetown's cobblestone streets invite you to explore America's oldest unchanged building, the 1765 Old Stone House. The historic C&O Canal towpath offers peaceful walks past brick warehouses, while Gothic spires of Georgetown University crown the hillside. Shoppers flock to high-end boutiques along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, where Federal-style townhomes create an 18th-century ambiance. Upscale restaurants and waterfront dining spots with Potomac River views dominate the food scene. The area is best explored on foot, though the Foggy Bottom metro station is a 15-minute walk away. Boutique hotels in converted historic buildings provide stylish accommodation for travellers seeking premium experiences in this walkable district.

Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is where American history leaps off the textbook page and into real life. The iconic dome of the US Capitol shares the skyline with the Supreme Court and Library of Congress, all waiting for your eager exploration. Beyond these marble giants, Eastern Market buzzes with local vendors and weekend farmers selling everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts. Tree-lined streets reveal colourful 19th-century rowhouses that tell stories of the nation's past. Dining options range from casual pubs where political staffers unwind to charming cafes perfect for people-watching. Two metro stations make getting around a breeze, connecting you to the rest of DC's attractions. Most government buildings offer free tours, though you'll want to book these in advance.

Downtown Washington D.C.

City centre DC buzzes with iconic history and cultural treasures at every turn. The White House stands proudly among neoclassical buildings while the Smithsonian's red sandstone castle invites curious minds. Museum-hoppers flock to the National Portrait Gallery and Museum of Women in the Arts. History buffs can explore Ford's Theatre and admire the Cathedral of St. Matthew's detailed architecture. Getting around is a breeze with multiple Metro stations connecting the area to greater DC. Dining ranges from power lunch spots to quick food trucks. Hotels cater primarily to business travellers with luxury amenities. Chinatown adds vibrant energy to this walkable district where government and culture seamlessly coexist.

Foggy Bottom

Foggy Bottom offers an intriguing Washington DC experience, blending academic energy from George Washington University with historic significance. Visitors can enjoy world-class performances at the Kennedy Centre with Potomac River views, explore the infamous Watergate complex, or wander tree-lined streets with Federal-style rowhouses beside imposing institutional buildings. The area features both upscale restaurants near the Kennedy Centre and casual spots around campus. With the well-connected Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station and pedestrian-friendly streets, the area's upscale hotels perfectly position both business travellers and culture seekers for easy access to city centre attractions.

Washington and related destinations

Between the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol, the National Mall unfolds like America's front yard, where museums offer everything from moon rocks to Monets for free. The White House tour requires advance planning, but anyone can snap photos from Lafayette Square. Cherry blossoms frame the Tidal Basin each spring, creating a pink canopy that locals celebrate like visiting celebrities. Beyond monuments, areas like Adams Morgan serve Ethiopian feasts and late-night jumbo slices, while U Street's historic jazz clubs still swing nightly. For a perfect evening, catch a sunset from the steps of the Jefferson Memorial, then wander to a Georgetown patio where political gossip flows as freely as the cocktails.

Washington Plaza Hotel

Washington Plaza Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"My stay was good. The only thing I didn’t like is that the hotel doesn’t have microwaves for its customers to use. When I asked if I could use a microwave, the attendant told me there were no microwaves and as a person who travelled for business, that seemed strange it was the first hotel I stayed at state-side that had no microwaves for its patrons to use. Other than this, the hotel is nice. "

"Staff was very calm and courteous about me needing to leave my bag at the front desk a few times. Also friendly staff at the breakfast buffet. I reserved a king bed room and got a room with two doubles with a handicapped shower that didn’t quite stream out far enough to take a shower. Also, the room was very clean but the remote was visibly disgusting. "
