Booked the "luxury apartment" for 4 people (2 kids/2 adults) for 2 nights. ($300 per night prepaid) The room we were given was not at all like the pictures on the hotel website. I reviewed my reservation and pulled up the pics. My husband then went to talk to the front desk lady and she said they are a small hotel, couldn't switch rooms, and they were full. The next morning I went to the front desk and the man said the manager was not there and would not be available for the next two days. There wasn't anything he could do about the room, but he could offer us breakfast. He said we had been "upgraded" and the space was larger than other rooms. (In fairness, it is a large apartment) I looked into other hotels - unfortunately all booked for that day. The room was old, dirty, small monitor for a TV, old books scattered around, pictures on the floor, dead plants, magazines piled up from 2012, messy kitchen area, etc. We spent as little time as possible in the room. I ended up getting bit by bed bugs and had to go see a dermatologist when i got home. I emailed the hotel the day I returned. The response received was "Thanks for contacting us." Nothing else. I had hoped the hotel would have been responsible & professional in responding, which is why I held off on posting the review. However, it appears they are not concerned with customer service or complaints. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice but there wasn't much he could do without the manager.

Excellent stay, highly recommended!
Lovely little hotel right on the Amstel! We were greeted warmly by reception and had an excellent stay, I very much recommend this hotel. It is an older building, so understand the limitations there. Our canal facing 1st floor room was a little small, but honestly.. if you’re staying in the room the whole trip, you’re doing it wrong!! :) This was not a problem for us but I thought it worth mentioning. It is also in a bit of a “party area” (what area in Amsterdam isn’t?) and can get a little noisy at night, especially after the bars close. Again, not a problem for us but if you’re a light sleeper it might not be great for you. The shower was small but had excellent heat and water pressure! Loved it. Breakfast was FANTASTIC and very reasonably priced at under €10 at the time of this review. Don’t skip it! It was served in a lovely and cozy room downstairs near the lobby. Here you can make yourself a delicious omelette and choose from a great assortment of breads, meats, cheeses, fruit and yogurt, juices, etc. The coffee was strong and delicious! If you wish to stay near the heart of the city and have a wonderful view of the canal, look no further. The attached photo is our view from the room. I will return again soon!

Excellent location, great views and staff
Excellent location, particularly for those at a University of Amsterdam conference (less than 3 mins walk). The views from my annex room were amazing! The room is huge, with a bathtub, shower, table and large mirror to do makeup. The breakfast was good and the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. While this didn’t impact me, there is a steep and winding staircase that may be difficult with something bigger than a carry-on bag. I would have liked to have the option of someone cleaning the room after my first night, but nobody came by. The next day, they did come asking if I needed anything cleaned and I gave them some trash and dirty towels. The third day, the bed was made and trash taken out without my asking, which was nice, but would have expected this on the first day unless I requested otherwise. Did not impact the enjoyment of my stay, however. The ground floor of the annex smells strong of mildew/mold, which I am allergic to, but thankfully the room was fine! Overall, excellent stay and highly recommend, but the staircase is the only issue I can foresee people with a lot of bags or mobility problems could find difficult.

We booked this hotel for 5 nights and were glad we did! Situated along one of the city’s many canals, and a short walk to Rembrandt Square, with plenty of eateries and shops. Great site seeing local. The Flower Market, a 5-minute walk away. Dennis and his colleague, Diane, who work the front desk plus assist in the dining room (are very convivial) and go out of their way to ensure your stay will be a good one. The housekeepers also do a fine job. Our room overlooked a canal and quite picturesque. We had booked us a Superior Double Room, Annex Building, non-smoking and King Bed. With free Wi-Fi. The bathroom was cavernous, and the towels were nice and not scratchy. The bed and pillows are quite comfortable. However, the room located in the annex and the staircase was quite steep. No elevator in the annex, but one in the main building. We paid for the yummy breakfast buffet, delighted by the selections, and free the first morning. Outside we spotted this Egret hanging around. Dennis, as well as Diane, explained this female bird has been coming here to eat cheese for many years. All guests are advised not to get to close to the animal, as it is still a wild creature. Evenings in this area are quiet, and you can leave your window open without disturbance of too much foot traffic and noise. A visit to Amsterdam would not be complete without a stay at the Amsterdam House Hotel.

This is a difficult hotel to evaluate. On the plus side, it's a very good location, with a nice view. The staff members were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was unique (make your own omelet) and a great value. On the downside, the photos on Expedia are; even more than the expected puffing; suggestive of a Hotel which is more modern and of a higher quality than the facts established. Our room was small (which was disclosed), but the floor was tilted, and the hot and cold water faucets on the sink were reversed, (which was a source of entertainment for my wife during our two day stay). The room was not dirty, but it was not particularly clean; for example the fan filter in the bathroom had certainly not been cleaned in years. In fairness, it's not an expensive hotel. So don't expect a five star facility. We made our reservations at the last minute and we're middle aged+ so we tend to expect a bit more coddling. But that's on us.
