Top neighbourhoods in Tallinn

Old Town Tallinn

Old Town Tallinn feels like stepping through a time portal into a medieval fairytale. Gothic spires pierce the sky above cobblestone squares where the 13th-century St. Olaf's Church towers over bustling cafes. Ancient city walls embrace narrow passages leading to panoramic viewpoints at Toompea Castle. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral's onion domes gleam against weathered limestone facades. Medieval taverns serve elk and black bread alongside modern Estonian cuisine. Boutique hotels in converted medieval buildings offer historic charm with modern amenities. The neighborhood's highly walkable streets have limited vehicle access, with tram stops at the edge connecting to Tallinn's city centre.

Kadriorg

Kadriorg's magnificent baroque palace and art museums create a cultural paradise for history buffs and art lovers. Wander through manicured gardens with swan ponds or discover Estonian masterpieces at the striking KUMU Art Museum. The expansive park offers peaceful tree-lined paths where locals jog and picnic away from the bustling city centre. Cosy cafés in historic villas serve modern Estonian cuisine with garden views. The area connects easily to city centre Tallinn via frequent buses and trams. Most attractions sit within walking distance of each other, making this leafy district perfect for travellers who appreciate cultural immersion with room to breathe.

Kalamaja

Kalamaja's creative soul shines through its colourful wooden houses and converted factories. This hip Tallinn area blends historic charm with artistic energy at Telliskivi Creative City, where galleries and design studios buzz with activity. Street art transforms industrial walls into open-air exhibits while the maritime heritage lives on at the fascinating Seaplane Harbour museum. Cosy cafes and craft breweries offer perfect spots to refuel after exploring the cobblestone streets. Getting around is a breeze with trams connecting to Old Town in just 10 minutes, though walking the scenic route takes only slightly longer. Accommodation options range from boutique guesthouses in restored wooden houses to artsy apartments in former industrial spaces.

Kesklinn

Kesklinn brings Tallinn's past and present together in one fascinating package. The UNESCO-listed Old Town charms with cobblestone streets, medieval towers, and the pink baroque Toompea Castle overlooking red-tiled rooftops. Music flows from street performers in Town Hall Square while the Estonian National Opera and KUMU Art Museum showcase the country's rich cultural scene. Cosy medieval taverns serve traditional black bread alongside modern Nordic cuisine, with options for every budget. The neighborhood's central location means you can explore most attractions on foot or hop on frequent trams and buses. Boutique hotels in converted historic buildings offer authentic charm with modern comforts.

Haabersti

Haabersti delivers Tallinn's perfect mix of nature and culture away from the bustle. The Estonian Open Air Museum brings history to life with wooden buildings and craft demos. Tallinn Zoo's forested paths lead to exotic animal encounters. Catch a concert at Saku Suurhall arena or find peace at Ülemiste Pond's reflective waters. Local buses connect you to all the major spots, with frequent service to the city centre. Traditional Estonian restaurants serve hearty soups and black bread near attractions. For authentic souvenirs, browse handcrafted items at the Open Air Museum before retreating to the district's peaceful residential streets.

Tallinn and related destinations

Venture into a fairy tale as medieval towers rise above cobblestone streets in the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Climb Toompea Hill for views that explain why locals never tire of their skyline. The Estonian Maritime Museum's Seaplane Harbour houses submarines in massive hangars that once sheltered seaplanes. Hipsters have transformed the former factory district of Kalamaja into a playground of craft breweries and art spaces. After exploring Gothic churches, refuel at a cellar tavern where servers in medieval costume serve hearty stews. The city embraces its digital future while preserving its Hanseatic past – you can vote online but still buy handicrafts from artisans using centuries-old techniques.

"I arrived here late at night off the ferry. The hotel was easy to find virtually right at the port and only 5 mins from both A and D terminals. I checked in which was very smooth via the electronic check in kiosks. My room was on the third floor where there’s a well equipped communal area. With fridge, vending machines selling everything including light meals. TV and work area. My room was spacious with a large bathroom. I had a small window looking on to a tiny courtyard. In the morning there is an attached cafe that has an excellent range of options for breakfast. Checkout it s very easy with the ability to leave luggage if desired. The team stop I’m s just round the corner although you will have to take a tram then a bus to reach the airport."

During your visit, you can explore notable attractions, including monuments and art galleries, while also enjoying budget-friendly dining options. This timeframe offers great value for money, allowing you to immerse yourself in Tallinn's rich history and vibrant culture without breaking the bank.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Tallinn, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. To stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, consider enabling email alerts or push notifications. The Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window tool available via the app could help you compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best options. If prices drop or rooms become available, you’ll be promptly notified, allowing you to secure a last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you save on your stay in a hotel in Tallinn. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher end, we will recommend more affordable dates, increasing the likelihood that you will find the best deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Tallinn's superb public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
