Comfortable stay & excellent value for money
Although hotel is obviously having parts refurbished there was no detrimental impact on guests. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Food in the restaurant was excellent. We felt valued as guests & thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Excellent traditional recently modernised hotel
Such a lovely old fashioned but friendly large hotel. Brilliant views of the sea and Abbey. We chose a sea view room and it is worth it. We paid for parking in their secure car park for peace of mind. Excellent breakfast served until 10am. Nice bar and restaurant for the evenings. Lovely friendly staff. Lovely warm room with original features but recently modernised. Dog friendly hotel and areas (we don’t have one). Will be returning and recommend.

Good views over the harbour but worst coffee
Nice hotel, shame about the ongoing renovations, bar was a building site and the coffee is possibly the worst I’ve ever had. Staff were nice tho and renovated room was fine for the price.

Not so relaxing at the moment
Two night break for relaxation however not aware so much building work was taking place and drilling started at 8am each day next to the room we were in

Great hotel , happy staff
The hotel staff were very polite and attentive, the decor is a little run down but didn't bother us. The food was lovely especially the cooked breakfast.i would like more choice for the evening meal.

Good
Over all the hotel was good. They currently are updating the rooms so looked like a building site in places. We stayed in one of the newly done rooms very nicely done but plug in the shower tray did not drain quick enough. I was in the shower just a little I've 5 mins and the water was runny out of the shower tray. Staff was very nice and friendly, the atmosphere was good will definitely book again x

Staff of the property were incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. Bar was again friendly service with average prices. Room was lovely size for 2, ensuite was decent size. We didnt have breakfast but it did smell terrific, local shops were also very friendly and very welcoming.

2/10 Poor

Disappointed
Room ready on arrival and friendly staff on check-in. Very dated hotel which is being renovated but we had a terrible nights sleep in a very noisy room, heaters making loud noise and also dogs barking in rooms early morning. When asked on departure if everything had been ok we did highlight these things. Not apologetic at all, it was almost as if it was said on a regular basis. Glad we didn’t do the upgrade! Shame as I’d always wanted to stay here from being you. - highly disappointed.

2nd time we have stayed at the Royal. This time was a great improvement, stayed in a brand newly refurbished room, 1st class accommodation, close to the town centre for pubs restaurants and entertainment. Definitely will be back again highly recommended.
