Upscale restaurants serve fresh seafood and authentic Venetian risotto, while historic cafés offer perfect spots for people-watching. Water buses connect every 15 minutes from nearby stops, making exploration easy despite the crowds. The area's Byzantine-Gothic architecture creates a fairytale setting for travellers seeking Venice's timeless magic.

Cannaregio

The world's first Jewish Ghetto anchors this historic area, with its synagogues and museum telling centuries-old stories. Art lovers can marvel at Tintoretto masterpieces in Madonna dell'Orto church, while shoppers browse artisan workshops for handmade masks and Murano glass. Charming canal-view apartments and boutique guesthouses offer mid-range accommodation with authentic Venetian décor. Historic palazzos converted into boutique hotels offer authentic accommodation with warm ochre facades and occasional glimpses of hidden gardens behind ancient walls.

Santa Croce
Santa Croce offers a slice of authentic Venice away from the tourist crush. Historic palaces and Byzantine churches with ship-keel ceilings stand alongside the fascinating Natural History Museum in the Fondaco dei Turchi. Wander through narrow canals where laundry lines hang above weathered stone facades. Discover artisan workshops crafting traditional Venetian masks and marbled paper between peaceful campi. Family-run bacari serve delicious cicchetti and local wines for less than you'd pay in San Marco. Water buses at Riva de Biasio and San Stae connect you to the Grand Canal network every 10-20 minutes. Boutique hotels in converted historic palazzos provide a comfortable base for exploring this quieter corner of Venice.

San Polo

Amadeus Hotel
"Great stay convenient location"
Hampton By Hilton Venice Isola Nuova
"We liked that it was clean, good breakfast, very nice outdoor pool. Worked out well for the cruise pickup point."
B&B HOTEL Venezia Laguna
"Great place for a one night stay, very concrete and helpful staff with recommendations"
Hilton Molino Stucky Venice
"The hotel property is beautiful and definitely world class. The check-in process was smooth and timely. The handling of our luggage was very good. From being greeted at the dock, to the delivery to our room. The room itself was spacious, and comfortable. Our feelings are that ALL hilton properties have the perfect bed firmness for us, and this was no exception. The bar staff was pleasant and attentive. The selection of cocktails and quality was very nice. The breakfast is nothing short of amazing. There was one sour note. In confirming our exit water taxi, we were given bad information for the following morning. We departed 2 hours earlier than we needed to, and had been advised previously. So, I'd say check, and check again. Overall an excellent stay and experience."
Hotel Cavalletto e Doge Orseolo
"Our corner room, looked right down on the gondolas picking up passengers, so we loved that. Lots of entertainment. Breakfast buffet, included, was very nice. Hotel is located just steps off San Marco square, which is very convenient. Water taxi can come right to the door of the hotel."
Palazzo San Luca
"Very spacious apartment lots of amenities but limited furniture to store clothing and toiletries and no bathroom upstairs."
Unahotels Ala Venezia - Adults Only
"A great help that guest services spoke English. They help me navigate dinner, sightseeing and water taxis"
Hotel Montecarlo
"I liked everything , service, location , breakfast, staff"
Hyatt Centric Murano Venice
"I really liked my stay at the Hyatt Centric. It’s right off the ferry stop and also right by the stop where you can get a private water taxi, which makes getting around very easy. I took a private boat to Murano when I arrived, but used the hotel’s shuttle boat back to the airport. Both options were equally good quality, comfortable and easy. It’s a bit far from the Lido and a bit of a haul from the main islands of Venice, but I enjoy the boat rides, so I didn’t mind. And honestly, a comfortable, clean room is paramount for any stay. There’s not much around as far as souvenirs or shopping if you’re not looking for glassware. This is Murano, after all, and Murano is famous for its glass, so there is certainly plenty of that! I had dinner at the hotel restaurant at sunset along the canal and really enjoyed it. The portions are American-style big, and the limoncello is strong! I loved sitting there watching people walk their dogs and watching the ferries come in, with everyone getting on and off. It was a lovely way to experience a quieter side of Venice. My room was quiet, the water pressure was great, and the bed was comfortable. I didn’t even touch the AC. All around, a good stay and I would absolutely come back."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Venice
- Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Venice is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices are lower. For those looking to explore the city's rich history, culture, and stunning architecture, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal. This budget-friendly timeframe allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the iconic landmarks, including majestic cathedrals, fascinating museums, charming churches, and impressive monuments. Enjoy romantic boat rides through the canals and relax in delightful cafes, all while ensuring great value for money on your trip. With prices potentially dropping in these months, it’s a perfect opportunity for those travelling on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals for hotels in Venice, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted rates as your travel date approaches. You could also enable email alerts or push notifications to stay updated on flash sales and special promotions, ensuring you won't miss opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window tool within the app aids in comparing hotel prices and amenities, so you’re more likely to see the best options available. With these resources, you'll be informed of any price drops or availability changes, ready to book your getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate based on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates could help you find a better deal on your stay in a hotel in Venice. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and may offer greater value. When you make a booking through Hotels.com, we'll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the cost is on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could be more budget-friendly, helping you to identify a potentially better option.
- Consider your location: Staying nearer to key attractions or city centres may offer convenience, but it often comes with a higher price tag. For more budget-friendly options, consider hotels in less central areas or neighbourhoods, striking a balance between cost and accessibility to the sites you intend to visit. You might also look into independent hotels located a bit further out, which can provide a more authentic and usually more affordable experience.
