This is a unique and characteristic hotel with lots of history and amazing architecture. The scenery, gardens and the estate overall are simply gorgeous. The spa and the outdoor pool area is also very nice especially in good weather (it may be difficult to find a lounger when it is sunny though). The room I stayed in was nicely decorated with wood panellings and period furnitures; bed was very comfortable as well. However, if you love modern luxury, you may be disappointed with the rooms since...

The reception, breakfast and cleaning staff all did a good job. The aircon in the hotel was very effective which was great when it was so hot outside.
Plenty of parking, very convenient for access to attractions in the area, close to the river.

Our one night stay at the Compleat Angler was lovely. While the building and room could do with a bit of an update, the overall experience was lovely. The staff were friendly; the room was spacious with a very comfy bed; and the amenities were excellent.

The hotel is in a superb rural location and has a huge field alongside. The room we were given was on the ground floor with a door that gave direct access out to the field that was great for our dog. There are two disabled parking bays nearest the main entrance and reception with a ramp alongside to manage the kerb, however once you reach the main entrance there are two large steps to get into the building. Quite relaxing environment, hotel reception extremely friendly. Nice classic pub environment.
Only down sides I only noticed after we arrived to our room and checked on the booking page photos of all room option are identical, so it was a bit surprising to see our room looked smaller/different on arrival to the option/photo shown on the booking. Then I realised it is kind of a stock photo, Pub menu a little bit overboard. While all food we had was pretty nice I felt it was quite limited...

Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more affordable stay in a Great Missenden hotel. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If it happens to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a more favourable rate.
Consider your location: Opting for accommodation nearer to key attractions or city centres may offer convenience; however, it often comes with a higher price tag. For more budget-friendly options, consider staying in areas or neighbourhoods that are slightly further out, where you can find a better balance between cost and accessibility to the sites you wish to visit. You might also look into independent hotels located a bit farther away, which can provide a more authentic experience and are usually likely to be more affordable.
