4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Iceland

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly times to visit Iceland are January, April, and November, when hotel prices are typically lower. For those wanting to fully appreciate the country's remarkable landmarks, rich history, and stunning natural attractions, a stay of at least 2 days is recommended. This allows ample opportunity to explore Iceland’s cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery, making it a great value for money destination for travellers on a budget. With prices potentially dropping during these months, visitors can enjoy an affordable getaway while delving into the beauty of Iceland’s iconic sites.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals in Iceland, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted rates on hotels as your travel date approaches. It’s advisable to enable email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com to stay informed about potential flash sales and exclusive last-minute promotions. This way, you could find opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window feature in the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re promptly notified if prices drop or rooms become available for your ideal getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you save on your stay in an Icelandic hotel. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and, at times, better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we’ll suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable, helping you to secure a more advantageous deal.
  4. Consider your location: Staying in the heart of major cities in Iceland certainly offers the advantage of convenience, with local attractions just a stone's throw away. However, this prime location often comes at a premium price. In contrast, smaller towns and rural areas are more likely to be affordable, allowing visitors to experience the charm of Iceland without breaking the bank. For those seeking better rates, opting for accommodation just outside the city centre can be a savvy choice, although it may necessitate a bit more travel to reach key sites. Additionally, exploring nearby cities that also boast a wealth of attractions can provide budget-friendly options while still offering a taste of the local culture.
