Dissapointing stay.
We arrived at 15.30pm to be told room still not available for check in and return again in 20-30 minutes. After a long time travelling and then sight seeing in London we were tired and hoping to rest and shower before heading back into London for 5pm. We were one of a group of people who were unable to check in at the same time. we arrived in room 210 to a room overlooking the noisy generators - whilst I appreciate a standard room does not entail a park view - when I asked at reception I was told that this was only rooms available for me. We then got to room to the air con saying fault - although still coming out with cold air. We had no towels so had to ask at reception - very quick service for housekeeping to bring though. After coming back to the hotel following a show, I ordered a hot chocolate at the bar which is on the menu - after one man looking and discussing with numerous staff I was told they are unable to do this. Therefore settling for a cold drink instead. The cooked breakfast was inedible - the bacon was piles of fat only. Sausages raw. Very very poor. For £12 pp I felt that the standard of food was poor and for this money I ate 2 slices of toast and a croissant - most expensive continental breakfast iv had in a long time! Another guest let themselves into our room at 9am - which I feel very worrying that other guests can access the rooms. I booked this hotel as a treat - but will be returning to premier inns as they seem much more reliable!

We arrived and were held up by an IT issue at check-in. Not a big concern, if it were the only one. The elevator did not seem to work easily for anyone, including us as we try to make our way from the second floor reception to our room. The standard room was So small that we had no idea where to put a second suitcase… And the suitcases were both carry-on size! There was an on identified substance on the bedspread and a large strip of the artificial wood on the faux desk. I brought my concerns and the photos to the attention of the reception and to their credit, they upgraded us to a room with a view of the park, which we moved into arriving home from the theater. When we got into bed discovered that there was no top sheet on the bed. We called down and were told that someone would look into it after we explained what a top sheet was. We needed to call in another 20 minutes to ask and shortly after someone knocked on the door and handed the sheet to us. So we made our bed. I have no illusions that the size of a standard room in London would be or should be palatial; however, at the posted rack rate beside the check-in desk, I would expect better service than the expectation that we make our own bed. Perhaps It was determined that they had helped us as much as they could and that any request following that Would be at Best tolerated. In fact at check out, the same manager asked me no questions or offered no words of appreciation for our business.

A nice hotel in a convenient location
I had a total of 9 nights at the Thistle Kensington Gardens over two stays and enjoyed my time there. I upgraded to the executive suite on check in on my first visit (having booked a standard double) on the promise of a bigger room and better experience. The view from my room on floor 9 was awesome over Kensington Gardens and across to the Royal Albert Theatre with The Shard and the London Eye visible in the distance. The room had a king sized bed and a work space but did still feel a bit small even though this is common in European hotels. The bathroom was absolutely tiny - no room to set out makeup or hair stuff...this was all done at the desk! I didn't use the brasserie or have the breakfast included but used room service a couple of times and this was a good experience. No fridge in the room was a bit disappointing. I had two days away (and the hotel helpfully held onto my big suitcase for me so I could fly carry-on only...awesome - thanks!!!) and when I came back I went to my reserved Deluxe Double room. This was far too small so went straight back to upgrade to the Executive suite again...this time on floor 3 so view not great but a better sized room so worth the extra cost. The hotel is conveniently located close to two tube stations - Queensway for the Central line and Bayswater for the Circle and District line. I was able to organise a late checkout to better fit in with my late flight which was awesome but the process was not as easy as it could have been!

Selected this property as part of a package since it was located right outside of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens. Room was no much larger than the king bed in the room, but that is typical for many London hotels. Choose the deluxe room as that meant we had a view of the park. The room was air conditioned which is not always true in London. The bathroom was small. Hotel has a restaurant, but no pool or fitness room. Desk staff had to rekey the key cards multiple times since they would not work consistently in the elevators and they were needed for access to the guest floors. Desk staff was very accommodating in getting us taxis as needed. Bathroom issue was never fully resolved during our stay even though it was reported on the first day of our stay. The room was fine for a couple and reasonably priced.

We had a nice experience checking in, hotel staff was friendly and explained everything well. We even checked in early as room already available (we arrived just after 1pm). Room was big and lots of spaces, comfortable beds too, just noticed carpet looks like not been cleaned for a while as there were some stains on it (wasn’t a big deal). When we were preparing to go out that evening, I had a shower and noticed that the switch that was attached to the bath (where you turn left right to hold and drain water) was not attached properly and was loose, so had a shower and noticed that water wasn’t draining even if I tried switching it from side to side, so ended up calling housekeeping. She seen the problem, even tried doing it herself but she said she will have to ask someone (maybe a plumber.? Or more experienced staff to have a look at it), when she left water started draining slowly. We waited for this somebody to come back but one one came back to have a look, we were going to see a show so we can’t really stay that long, we waited but decided to leave... when we came back that night looks like no one came to have a look at it. The next morning when we had a shower it was drawing slowly, we didn’t bothered following it up As we don’t want to waste time waiting again. Breakfast was a bit pricey too especially if you don’t pre book it (£18.99).
