Disgusted!
I checked out early on a previous visit. Due to the great impression the hotel and staff made on my prior visit I, I returned earlier this week to be greeted by the most embarrassing and worrying event of my life. The lady who checked me in started off lovely, then when I gave my name in, she suddenly turned highly unprofessional and hostile. She left the desk for at least 10 minutes, leaving me there unattended. To return she said I had VANDALISED the room on my last visit and ripped the tv off the wall. I asked her to investigate which she did and confirmed that the room had been sold again that night to someone else. I had a rotten night, maybe got 2 hours worth of sleep. Next morning I got an apology that the night porter did not enter the other persons details properly so the staff assumed I was the guilty party. I emailed a complaint to receive an apology and confirmation that I was innocent, however I was scared of moving from the room, scared of sleeping, taking a shower etc.... to be treated as such is despicable especially in the hospitality trade and especially in such a friendly area as Liverpool.

Hellishly Miserable Night
We booked on Hotels.com same day. When we arrived at around 8pm it became clear that the hotel was hosting a wedding reception. The front desk assured us that the wedding reception would be over soon and was not likely to affect us, but by the time we had finished the lackluster and expensive hotel restaurant meal, and retired to our room with our very fatigued 9 year old daughter, we discovered that our room was situated directly on top of the amplifiers for the rowdy dance party. I don't mean it was a little loud. I mean that it literally felt like we were INSIDE an incredibly loud discotheque. Ear plugs would have done nothing to lessen our misery as the invasive sound wall was propogating through our very bones!!! As we were a "last minute" booking (not sure what that was supposed to mean), we were told that it would be impossible to move to a different room. At this point the hotel staff told us the wedding reception would be over by 10:30. In fact it was not over until close to ONE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!!!! On top of that the room was shabby, and a rowdy wedding reveler rapped violently on our door around midnight. This appeared to be intentional harassment, as his equally drunken mates could be seen trying to discourage him from bothering us. (I was watching through the peep hole.) This was by far the worst hotel experience I have had in my life. We would never have checked in had we known how miserable it would be.

Room 45
Stayed at the hotel for 1 night. We was given room 45 which is on the second floor and overlooks the front of the hotel. First think we noticed as we entered the room was an overpowering smell of bleach. We had to open the window it was that strong. At least we thought the room should be spotless. Looking at the room it was nothing like the rooms shown on the photographs on this web site. The furniture is very dated the room is cramped. The net curtains look like they have never been washed and are ripped. There was a stain on the carpet and the desk had not been cleaned. The bathroom again is very dated. The light above the mirror did not work and the toilet did not flush properly. The most worrying thing was hot water coming out of the cold tap. This is probably due to the hot pipe transfering heat to the cold due to a poor installation. This could cause serious health issues. We reported all of these issues when we checked out. We would have asked to be moved but we was going out to Fusion Festival as soon as we arrived and did not return till late.

Very good 8.0
beautiful old hotel in need of lots of TLC
Very close to the city so was really good for venue we stayed for at the Echo Arena, hotel is a really beautiful big old building with lots of charm, but sadly in need of lots of TLC and maintenance brought back up to scratch as been unattended in many areas. The staff though are extremely polite, friendly and ever ready to assist and be as helpful as possible. We had x2 family rooms as there were x5 of us No 50 bathroom door locks you in when you go inside so very traumatic for children that can't unlock the door as our 5year old grand daughter found out, bedroom window doesn't open so to try and let a little fresh air in when the smell from the drains gets a bit much is a no no, TV's have no children's channels so if you have children take plenty for them to do. No 52 when I tried to call reception using 0 'which they told me gets me through' to find out what the TV children's channels were, I had to go up to reception, not due to as receptionist thought that the phone didn't work, No because there was no phone in the room, also couldn't check the TV channels myself as low and behold batteries in remote 'DEAD'. Bathroom door was better for the kids though as not only couldn't you lock it, but it doesn't keep closed either, wardrobe if this is what you would call it as it has no doors, when getting clothes in or out this is also where the ironing board is stored 'as there is no other room to put it' has a tendency to fall out on you oh and no drawers in the room.

Exceptional 10.0
Liverpool mini break
My wife and I were going to Liverpool for a concert and decided to make a mini-break out of it. After exploring our options we opted for the Hallmark Hotel next to Sefton Park as they provided free on-site parking and included breakfast at a rate that the city centre hotels couldn't match by a long way! The hotel has a very attractive frontage and is on the doorstep of Section Park which is a lovely location. We paid a little extra and ended up in the room that is used as the bridal suite which was very spacious and comfortable. Elements of the room and hotel are a little dated and it feels like some places could do with a deep clean but it's certainly nothing of note, especially with friendly staff and excellent rates! The breakfast was delicious and operates as a self-service buffet, with tea or coffee made for you when you arrive. We didn't have an evening meal in the restaurant as we were out and about but the menu sounded very nice. You can walk into the city centre (I'm using John Lewis as a waypoint) in 45 minutes at a comfortable strolling pace and you can get an Uber for £4-6, so I would 100% recommend staying at Hallmark over the city centre. As a final note, the concert that we were attending had to be delayed by a couple of months due to an injury to a band member so we booked to stay at the Hallmark again as we liked it that much.
