Good connections to Edinburgh if you are not staying in the room, it is cheap.

A nice stay
Actually a very nice stay. The room was comfortable and we had access to a shared kitchen and common room. It was better than we were expecting. The staff were friendly and helpful.
It is next to a Morrisons supermarket with a good cafe (Scottish breakfast is very nice). The bus stop outside gets you into the city centre in around 20 mins.
It was exceptional value during the fringe!

Value for the money
Value for the money. Very convenient to the seashore and several bus routes to the city center and signposts. The only complaint would be the small size of the bed for 2 persons and very soft pillows (only 1 for each person)

The doors close very loudly. Kitchen short fused frequently. Good location for transportation with a lot of buses going downtown. Also good to have a grocery store within walking distance. No restaurant around the area.

Overall, good value for money. One thing that might help future guests is to not keep a mop in the bathroom, as it left a terrible odor, and the shower curtain didn't touch the floor so water got everywhere when we showered. With transportation right outside the building, it only took 20 minutes to reach the city and there was a kitchen with a convenient Morrison's 4 minutes walking distance away. Would stay again despite the small issues as stated.

The dorm room was fine. *** Because there are no amenities. Good value though. My issue was the parking area which I think is owned by Morrisons. That area was filthy and reflected badly in the accommodation and had been so had been for some time. The accommodation is fine though.

Noisy neighbors with very thin walls. The "clean" towels we got had clumps of someone else's hair. The firealarm went off in the middle of the night (false alarm) that apparently happens quite often because there are signs around the building about false alarms. No parking nearby. And check in was late by half an hour.

The worst
Pictures totally deceptive, tiny dorm room, broken charger outlets, broken radiator blasting heat in July. Wrong office hours posted on ad. Left after an hour and had to book a different hotel for $700 more

Badly managed. Probably unsafe
Fire alarm went off in middle of night and no staff on site meaning that guests were left to work out what to do. No security came - unacceptable to leave a building with 100 trusts totally unmanaged.
Otherwise place is ok, however no housekeeping and room walls very thin, doors slam a lot and limited ventilation

Disappointing
The Receptionist was welcoming and friendly.
The room was unsuitable as noisy, busy road noise. I had made a request for a quiet room at booking stage.
The Receptionist, when I advised her, kindly apologised and advised the hostel was fully booked, therefore could not be allocated another room.
Noise as well from next door guests.
Fire alarm set off twice in the middle of the night.
There was a bad smell in the room, tried and ventilate while opening room yet traffic made it far too noisy. Smell remained.
Shower was ok, warm and water pressure good.

I reserved and paid for this hotel prior to leaving the states, and I received a normal confirmation email advising of my check-in and check-out times. Nowhere was it indicated that the facility would not be open on the weekends or that a passcode was required to access the building. My husband and I arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sunday to find a sign on the door of this hotel indicating they weren't open. We were literally stranded and spent two hours of our precious time in Edinburgh searching for a new hotel. Why was the access code not included in the confirmation email? A little communication on the part of this facility could have made for a great stay. Unless you are psychic, I'd avoid these lodgings and opt for something dependable.

A very basic stay
This was a student room and as such was small with a very small double bed pushed against the wall. If a couple, whoever was wallside would have to either climb over the other, or slither to the end of the bed to get out. The bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable. There was no bin, either in the room or more importantly, in the shower room which is very poor for disposable of sanitary products, which would have to be put in the bin in the conmunal kitchen area at the end of the hall. The kettle etc were in the kitchen area which was fairly clean though the bin was full of takeaway wrappers and there was a mouldy naan bread left on the side. The shower room was ok (apart from the lack of bin) with a good shower. Our neighbour was obviously a student who turned up about 2am both mornings. It was just a base for us visiting family, but not suitable for anyone staying longer. There are apartments there apparently too which I'm sure are better. There is onroad parking nearby. The reception staff were lovely.
