If you like accommodation with a bit of history and real character about it, this is the place for you
Of course the building is old and a bit rickety but that just adds to the charm.
The location is perfect, right beside the Cathedral and a five minute stroll to The Shambles and other attractions.
It's friendly, clean and the food is excellent.
I would definitely stay here again.

The staff are great and the room I had was very cosy, perfect for a Jan cold stay, it’s got heating but they do provide an additional heater in case
The pub itself is very popular - kudos to the owners but it did mean I never got a chance to grab a drink there - and also the guest wifi doesn’t really work for streaming when the pub is busy
Overall as long it’s very centrally located, just 10min walk from the station - and therefore perfect for a sightseeing trip

Perfect location opposite York Minster but unfortunately we had scaffolding outside our window totally obscuring the view, we were not made aware of this and having a view of the Minster was why we booked, very disappointed.

Fantastic quirky room the bed had quite a slope to it but loved the room slight grumble the shower was not over hot but perfectly acceptable. The breakfast was really good both mornings, the pub itself was very popular so not a place for a quiet drink but we will definitely go back

Our night in the Guy Fawkes Inn was so bad that by midnight we were ready to get a taxi home. We stayed in room 7. The bed was shaky, and the mattress was uncomfortable and squeaky. It was so uneven and depressed in parts that lying on it gave us both backache. The shambolic TV could not connect to the wifi (even the staff couldn’t get it to connect), so there was no option to stream a movie; we were stuck with terrestrial TV which only had a handful of channels and terrible signal.
Worst of all, vibrations from movement in the building (such as people going up or down the stairs or walking around in their rooms) would set the chandelier tinkling madly, which kept waking us up. My husband ultimately had to climb onto the sofa and pad the chandelier with his socks, which barely muffled it.
There was no bottled water, only one towel, and drilling from building works across the street started at 8am. The Guy Fawkes Inn can’t be blamed for that last one, but it added to the horror of the experience. There was a nice view of York Minster despite the scaffolding and the breakfast was great, but it wasn’t worth £200+. That chandelier will haunt me.

Totally delightful place. Our room was fabulous and the bed was so comfy. Location is also fabulous as right in town and an easy walk to everywhere. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful.

Very noisy room, extractor fan from the kitchen nextdoor came on at 7:15 until 21:00 and was very very loud, other noises from the kitchen in the middle of the night.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. Not the quietest hotel but shortly after 11 pm, it became quiet enough to sleep. One very old piece of furniture (armoire) in our room had its door fall off after it was opened, hanging on by a very thin nail.
