Fair/Good overall, room needs a little work.
Very nice hotel lobby and bar area, decorated beautifully for Christmas. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The route to my room on the 1st floor (rm 111) was difficult because of all the stairs (I'd recommend replacing them with ramps). Also, in an effort to be green, the lights in the newer wing would be off and come on as you passed under them, giving the hall a very creepy, uninviting vibe. The room was clean except for the hairdryer which was weirdly sticky. The linens need to be updated. My duvet had a hole in the lining and the mattress protector kept slipping off every night because the elastic was shot. The bed was comfortable enough, but it could probably use a new mattress. My only real criticism is the bathroom, which needs to be updated. Please put glass in the shower/tub because there's nothing worse than having a shower curtain touching you while showering.

Awful
Dreadful - it’s supposed to be 4 star but it doesn’t deserve any. Probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in years.

Hotel needs upgrading
Hotel was very tired. Friendly staff on reception. Best bit of the room was the shower room which looked like it had been recently fitted. Good quality fixtures & fittings. Bedroom area however was tired & dated. Quite a bit of dust & cobwebs on upper parts of the walls.Floors very creaky. There was a wedding on which we weren’t warned about & it was noisy. The music was turned off at twelve but then lots of noise with guests moving about. It is an old building & the floors & stairs are very creaky. It could be a beautiful hotel but it is badly in need of an upgrade in the rooms & communal areas. However the location was good for access to city centre & the staff were very friendly.

Disappointing
Not a bad location for visiting Broad St/Brindley Place with tram stop a short walk away. Reception wasn’t manned when we arrived and it took some time to find someone to check us in. We found the same in the bar, had to wait for someone to appear to get a drink! Hotel is very tired, fixtures and fittings damaged and dated. Looked clean on the surface but shower curtains filthy and stained, thick dust on doors, bed head and shower gel container empty. Bath panel damaged and shower head thick with calcification, could definitely use some viakal! Windows draughty and hard to close. A wedding was taking place during our stay and although the music ended at midnight, there was continued noise until the guests had dispersed. Had we been aware of this event, we may have stayed elsewhere. On a positive, the bed was very comfy and bedding and towels of nice quality.

The room and bathroom were both clean. I would have preferred a firmer pillow. Breakfast on our first morning, the staff were struggling to keep up with demand on the hot breakfast. My daughter and I had to wait for hash browns and black pudding. Everything was hot though.

A cold stay at a best western hotel !!!
The hotel in general was cold, in our room the radiators did not work at all, temp -2 outside, . We asked twice for heating and eventually given 2 fan heaters, but only one worked. When you pay good money for a hotel you expect it to be comfortable and warm, this was cold !

Honest review on one night stay
Just returned from 1 night stay. From the outside, and when being in reception it looks lovely... but then once in the room they are super outdated and in quite a poor state. The whole bedroom, bathroom ect was just really poor quality and obviously in desperate need of a revamp. Beds were like rocks, linen had marks. Breakfast was okay. Not much to say on that. Staff - reception lady was pleasant, but on checking in we waited for a man to appear for about 20 mins with 2 tired children who had been walking all day , without so much as a "sorry for your wait" We was then told by the man that we had to pay £10 for parking - was not aware of this and no idea what justifies this as the carpark was near empty. Wouldnt stay again.

A nice hotel - give it a go.
The staff were brilliant - very friendly and welcoming. The food in the evening was really good and excellent value for money. The bar was well presented with quality products. The room was decent and comfortable. The only let down was breakfast. I am sad to say in this review, in my experience, the breakfast was NOT (when I had it) value for money. The coffee machine sounded like it was on its last legs, coffee was weak, poor and undrinkable - I had to use the sachet of dried coffee to make a cup. There was no fruit juice - I was told 'we don't have orange juice', there was a bar with 200 bottles of it 20 feet away. The toaster didn't work well. Eggs appeared to have been cooked 30 minutes before and had gone hard and discoloured. The sausages were OK but, only OK. The rest of the buffet looked a bit cheap and thrown together. I would 100% still stay at this hotel again, because the previous night and overnight experience exceeded my expectations; and it was above par and value for money. However, I wouldn't have the breakfast as this was significantly subpar in my experience this week, which was a shame as everything else had been so good. I think the owners need to invest in a better breakfast offer or, don't offer it. Fruit juice from a wholesaler is less than £1 per carton for 10 or 12 servings, cook the eggs to order (you will not be throwing away inedible uneaten rubber), lease a new coffee machine. Small things make a big difference for your guests.

Quaint old hotel but issues with heating.
The reception staff were helpful. My room was cold-the heating hardly came on. The lady in reception tried her best to sort it but the room was still cold. I then spoke to a maintenance guy who explained the issue and the room was warmer the following evening. Although it went off quite early and was cold again in the morning. No one explained that i needed to put a notice out if i wanted to have the room cleaned and restocked. Once i knew i did it the following day but the tea bags were still not replenished.

Terrible place. Tired and in need of renovation. The room was cold and there was a sign on the wall stating that you had to ring reception to turn on/the heating. I did this and was told they don't switch on the heating until October! We checked out immediately - waste of money and best avoided.
