Top neighbourhoods in Bath

Bath City Centre

Bath City Centre invites you to stroll through 2,000 years of history where golden Georgian buildings frame ancient Roman ruins. The UNESCO World Heritage site dazzles with its honey-colored architecture, steaming thermal springs, and the magnificent Bath Abbey. Wander the pedestrianised streets where Jane Austen once walked or soak in the healing waters at Thermae Bath Spa. Traditional tea rooms and cosy pubs make perfect spots to recharge after exploring museums and boutique shops. Most attractions sit within easy walking distance, and Bath Spa Station connects you to London and beyond. Stay in charming converted Georgian townhouses for the full historic experience.

Bear Flat

Bear Flat delivers Bath's best views without the tourist hustle. Alexandra Park rewards your uphill trek with stunning panoramas of honey-colored Georgian buildings below. Wander through peaceful Victorian streets, where locals outnumber visitors, or hit the Bath Skyline Walk for countryside vibes right on the city's edge. Kennet & Avon Canal offers a perfect afternoon stroll away from the crowds. The area keeps things simple with cosy pubs and local cafés serving traditional British fare. Bed & breakfasts and guesthouses in elegant period homes provide authentic stays with garden access. Regular buses connect to Bath's centre in minutes, though the hills require decent walking shoes.

Widcombe

Widcombe offers a peaceful escape from Bath's busy centre while keeping all the good stuff within reach. The charming Georgian terraces and village vibe make you feel like a local from day one. Stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath, visit the medieval St. Thomas à Becket Church, or hike up to Alexandra Park for jaw-dropping views of Bath's honey-colored skyline. Traditional pubs serve hearty British fare in buildings with centuries of stories to tell. Most visitors stay in converted Georgian guesthouses with more character than you can shake a stick at. Regular buses zip you into the city centre in five minutes, though the pleasant canal-side walk might tempt you instead.

Lansdown

Lansdown's elevated position rewards visitors with sweeping views over Bath's honey-colored UNESCO landscape. Georgian architectural treasures like Lansdown Crescent and Beckford's Tower stand proudly among rolling green hills. The area offers a peaceful retreat from the city bustle, with proximity to Bath Racecourse and Lansdown Golf Club providing scenic outdoor escapes. Accommodation here lean towards elegant Georgian townhouses converted into boutique B&Bs with period features and garden views. While dining options are limited within the area itself, the occasional gastropub offers local flavour. Getting around requires planning—steep hills challenge walkers but reward with stunning vistas, while buses connect to Bath's vibrant centre.

Oldfield Park

Bath's Oldfield Park neighbourhood offers attractions, including Kennet & Avon Canal.

Bed was a little too firm, which, as I,ve experienced, was on par for all of the nice places that I’ve stayed in while in Europe. I would definitely recommend staying here."

8/10 Good
"Good one night stay. The area is lovely and the building is well maintained. Breakfast was reasonable, chosen from a menu, some of the ingredients felt quite basic, for example the pastrijes served were mini and the yoghurt was low quality and individual pot was served. The bedroom was clean enough but found previous occupants shoes in wardrobe, no apology when presenting these to reception staff. We were directed to a staircase to our bedroom which was on the top floor and a bit of a trek with suitcases, only later did we notice there is a lift. Room was small hut fine for one night and a good base for exploring Bath"

"Lovely staff, great rooms, pool was lovely but busy. The biggest single let down was breakfast. It was OK nothing special but charging £4 for a speciality coffee and then £6 to upgrade your breakfast for a come of extra bits was just cheap and penny pinching. I typically spend 100+ nights a year in hotels from 3* to 5* and the breakfast thing stuck out out bad."
