Top neighbourhoods in London

Covent Garden

Covent Garden buzzes with street performers juggling fire and classical musicians serenading shoppers beneath Victorian market halls. The historic piazza sits at the heart of London's theatre district, where the grand Royal Opera House neighbors boutique-filled arcades and artisan stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery to vintage books. Narrow medieval streets create a charming labyrinth for curious explorers. Dining options range from upscale British cuisine in converted Victorian buildings to international street food at market stalls. Most accommodation is boutique hotels in Georgian townhouses, though prices run higher than London's average. With the Covent Garden tube station right beneath the market and pedestrian-friendly zones throughout, getting around is a breeze.

South Kensington

South Kensington serves up a triple threat of world-class museums along Exhibition Road. The Natural History Museum wows with dinosaur bones, while the Victoria and Albert Museum showcases incredible art and design. Between cultural fixes, stroll through the peaceful paths of Kensington Gardens or catch a performance at the stunning Royal Albert Hall. The area pairs cultural exploration with upscale living. Elegant cafes and high-end boutiques line the streets where you can refuel after museum-hopping. Two Underground stations make zipping around London a breeze, and Hyde Park offers a perfect green escape just steps away.

Soho

Soho is the beating heart of London's entertainment scene, where neon-lit theatres line Shaftesbury Avenue and red lanterns glow in Chinatown. Wander through narrow streets packed with historic pubs, cutting-edge galleries, and basement jazz clubs. Leicester Square buzzes with street performers while Carnaby Street showcases quirky fashion boutiques and record shops that music lovers can't resist. The area dishes up everything from Michelin-starred cuisine to authentic dim sum in Chinatown's bustling corners. Most accommodation lean towards boutique hotels with designer interiors, though you'll find some budget options nearby. With Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Tottenham Court Road stations all within reach, exploring London from this vibrant hub couldn't be easier.

Mayfair

Mayfair flaunts its luxury credentials with every step you take. Bond Street dazzles with designer flagships while prestigious art galleries and legendary auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's showcase priceless treasures. The neighborhood's elegant Georgian townhouses and historic squares offer a glimpse into London's aristocratic past. Oxford Street buzzes with energy for serious shoppers wanting the full London experience. The dining scene is predictably upscale with Michelin-starred restaurants and elegant afternoon tea traditions. Five-star hotels dominate accommodation options. Getting around is easy with Bond Street and Oxford Circus tube stations connecting you to London's best attractions.

Camden

Camden thrives with alternative culture and punk heritage, a playground for the artistically curious. The famous Camden Market serves up everything from vintage clothing to international street food under Victorian railway arches. Music lovers can catch live acts at legendary venues while colourful murals and street art create an edgy backdrop along Regent's Canal. Getting around couldn't be easier with multiple Underground and Overground stations connecting you to all of London. Accommodation range from budget hostels to boutique hotels with music-themed décor, perfectly positioned for exploring this neighborhood's creative energy and vibrant street life.

London and related destinations

Forget the double-decker bus tours – the real London reveals itself when ducking into centuries-old pubs where Shakespeare might have scribbled sonnets over ale. The British Museum houses treasures from every civilisation, all available without spending a penny. Witness the ancient ceremony of the keys at the Tower of London, then compare crown jewels to the sparkling skyline from the London Eye's glass pods. Theater-lovers can score half-price West End tickets at Leicester Square's TKTS booth. Trafalgar Square's pigeons have been banished, but the people-watching remains superb. For a perfect afternoon, grab picnic supplies at Borough Market before sprawling on the grass in Hyde Park, watching locals pretend the fleeting sunshine is perfectly normal.

The Royal Horseguards, London

The Royal Horseguards, London

8/10 Good
"The location and lobby of this hotel were fantastic. The doorman was so incredibly friendly and helpful (wish I could recall his name). The bars and restaurants were great. However, the room itself was tired. Carpet needed to be replaced, furniture was worn, very few plugs in the room, etc. The bathroom was large but the shower was tiny, and the tile needed a deep cleaning, or replacing. The room was relatively quiet, which was nice. Housecleaning needed to be a little more consistent. Found a candy bar in the chair, someone else’s soap in the shower, and they were inconsistent with leaving caffeinated coffee. Bed was comfortable. Room service food quality after midnight was atrocious (jet lag). The chicken on the Caesar salad was grey, and the lettuce was wilted. "
